Charlie on The Passion

09.30.04

Charlie Daniels wrote a good bit about the Passion of the Christ. Now, I love this man, not only for his great music, but for his great writings, and for him being a great American. Enjoy!

The Passion of The Christ

I don’t have words to convey the intensity of this film to you. From the first frame until the last, it comes off the screen grabbing you and pulling you into the vortex of the incredible betrayal and cruelty which surrounded the last hours of Jesus’ life on earth.

Many have decried the violence of the movie but there is no way to accurately depict the death of Christ without violence because it was horribly violent. His body was laid open with a cat o nine tails, a whip with sharp pieces of metal attached to the leather which caught in His body and were jerked out leaving terrible gashes in the flesh.

A crown of thorns was pushed down on His head and the guards taunted Him and hit Him with their fists.

I have seen movies about the crucifixition of Jesus, but none of them brought home the realization of what actually happened to him as vividly as this one.

Each whip lash and each hammer blow driving the nails into his hands and feet are so real you want to flinch. The blood flows freely from the wounds on His body. And as you sit there, the reality of what really happened at Calvary comes home to you.

I am firmly convinced that no person ever born has suffered nearly as much pain as Jesus Christ and the truly amazing thing is that He did it willingly.

Some of you are probably wondering about the foreign language used in the film. Have no fear, the subtitles are explanatory and concise, making it easy to follow along with what’s happening on the screen.

I have heard critics say that “The Passion of The Christ” is the gospel according to Mel Gibson. Not so, this movie follows the Scriptures, probably the most Scriptually correct film I’ve ever seen.

Though there are bits of dialogue and small side scenes which are not in The Gospel, the minor licenses that Mel Gibson took do not, and I repeat, do not defy The Scriptures.

I don’t want to tell you very much about the movie because I want you to experience it as I did, but I will say that it ends in a very upbeat way.

This film is the truth and the world needs to know the truth about what happened to Jesus on this earth, but even more than that they need to know what happened because of the pain and anguish He suffered and the blood He shed.

Remember John 3:16, “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believes in Him shall not perish but have everlasting life.” That is what happened at the cross.

Insofar as the accusations of the film fostering anti-Semitism I would say that when I saw “Schindler’s List,” though it angered me with the Nazis, it doesn’t make me hate the German people, anymore than seeing something that happened two thousand year’s ago would make me hate the Jewish people.

On the contrary Jesus said from the cross, “Father forgive them for they know not what they do.”

It was the sins of the world which nailed Jesus to the cross, my sins, your sins, our sins; we all had a part in it.

I hope you’ll see “The Passion of The Christ.”

Pray for our troops.
