Wow. I was in your 7th grade class... I remember you guys exactly as you described. I stumbled on this site on accident... I've been overseas for almost five years. My family didn't want to tell me about Michael when it happened- they wanted to wait until they could tell me in person, so I didn't know until last summer. I've known the Wahls since I was in Kindergarten... and Michael and I had a lot of the same classes in High School- I always remember how talented he was with his drawing. I ran into him back in 2003 when I was home and we talked really briefly. So although I hadn't talked to or seen him in years, when my dad told me, I cried for awhile and then couldn't stop thinking of his family. My thoughts and prayers are with you. Chad- what you wrote is awesome. I'm on the verge of tears now.

Chad, Thought you might like to know Mykel had re-committed his life to the Lord. He & Monica had a great talk about it 2 days before he died. He brought a bunch of his buddies back to church with him and many re-dedicated their lives too. The family has such a peace knowing that they will see him again one day. Also his sister Amy came to the service dressed as a Ninja. It was standing room only ( over 1000 people). The pastor reminded people that the sheer number of people showed just how rich the Wahl family is. Thank you for a lovely tribute to such an amazing young man.

there's people in our lives that seem to be friends forever.. the kind of people we could be away from for years and still pick up right where we left off. people we grew up with.. we're the same, yet so different.. i spent time this weekend with my oldest friend and after he left, i felt that sting of separation again.. i can't imagine the feeling of losing an old friend for forever, instead of just days or years.. to all you guys that knew Michael, i'm so sorry for your loss.

Sean, Haha! I remember that moment like it was last week. Michael was always one to leave me dying of laughter. I'm flying down to San Diego on Tuesday, and Carrie Ann and I are gonna drive up for the funeral.

We'll be staying with Erik at his grandmothers place in Paso Robles.

Chad... you know I love you... knowing how close you two were allows me to understand how much of a loss this is. I knew Michael, and this world is definetly a little darker now that he is missing. He always knew what the most random thing to say at any moment would be. I remember driving in my poo wagon with Christian Punk Rock blaring in my sweet system... so loud that your brain waves become altered... and right between two rockous songs, during the point of absolute silence, Michael says, "Mobil Gas". WHAT??? I could not stop laughing for a long time. I did not know him as much as Chad but he was definetly one of those guys you felt right at home with as soon as you met him. Michael, I will see you later bud.

I never got the chance to hang out with you guys much when I was younger but I always looked up to myke. His carefree lifestyle appealed to me. But what made me respect him most was his compassion. Whenever the other guys would pick on me, I hated it. But when myke did it, it was never out of malice. He had a good heart. A great heart. Never spent much time with him but he was always one of those guys that we considered part of the family.
