[...] Memories we’ve had together flooded my mind as I drove to the woods with copper laying next to me on the bench seat. Like that time he came to the front door with his face full of porcupine quills. Or all the various dead critters he’d bring home to chew. Or how he’d follow Jeff’s horses around a bit too close, and old Oreo gave him a clean hoof to the ribs. That taught him a good lesson. Or that time that me and Erik were headed to downtown Cd’A, and Copper had his front paws up on the side of the truck bed, as I went over a pothole. His paws slipped forward, and over the edge he went. I could see him rolling along side the truck, half on the sidewalk, and half off. I’ll bet that smarts. Good thing I was only going 25. But he never did climb up on the bed wall again. [...]

I had a pet funnel web spider in a large jar for a while that my wife dug up in the garden. But it stank after a while so I got rid of it. Highly aggressive but terrified of the roaches that I tried to feed it (courtesy of the local Chines restaurant). I had to wound the roaches before the spider would attack them ...

Well, I guess you have a point, but give him some credit. At least he probably won't do it again. People are just as bad, and they tend to not learn that lesson from each mistake. Even when they see that something hurts or has the potential to be disasterous they try it or keep doing it anyway. Like doing drugs, or falling in love the wrong kind of guy/girl, or staying in an abusive relationship. Maybe we should be more animal-ish and follow our instincts. Then life might be a little less painful.

haha. Pam... you kill me.

If he was a smart dog he'd learn by observation. That is true wisdom. But dogs are just dumb animals... so no chance of that happening.

Poor baby! You should be more sympathetic Chad! You said, "Knowledge is power." So he was taking your advice! He was only trying to learn about porcupines. Moral? Don't try to teach your dog life lessons.
