Chickenhawk, Not a Chickensh*t
06.27.05Wizbang posted an excellent one today. I’m sure most of us have heard, or have been called, a chickenhawk by some anti-war, flowers in the barrel, hippy type liberal.
Heck, even Urban Dictionary’s first definition example calls Dubya a chickenhawk.
Here’s a quote from Wizbang.
That belief stands in stark contrast with the “chickenhawk” argument, which tries to shift the discussion from the message to the messenger. It tries to move the topic from “is this a good idea?” to “who the hell are you to say anything?” It is an attempt to silence the opposition by assailing them personally, by punishing them for daring to have a dissenting opinion.
And here’s one that I’m obviously guilty of.
At that point, [The Supporter] usually falls into the trap and starts explaining why he isn’t currently serving in the military. Lord knows I’ve done it myself on more than a few occasions.
Shoot. Thats almost obviously right. If I ever feel guilty of anything I stand for…. It’s that I can’t be out there in the thick of it, with the other soldiers. Eatin sh*t sandwhiches, and askin for seconds. That’s what they’re doin’. And I only wish I could be out there. Or to even say that I have military experience under my belt. I feel so robbed. Both my brothers were and are in. My dad too. If anyone shoulda gone in, it shoulda been me, dammit! Arrrgh.
But I’ve learned a good lesson today. I’m never explaining to any sorry-ass liberal chickensh*t why I’m not serving in the military, ever again. Cos if I could be out there, I would. Thanks Wiz.

If they really cared about soldiers they wouldn’t be making blantant attempts to cancel military absentee votes.
# June 27th, 2005 at 7:48 pmAnd I’d be right there by yer side to smack you with my PR-24(nightstick) everytime you get out of hand. And I’d constantly brag about me getting to carry a side arm and you didn’t cuz you’d prolly pick some stupid “Avaiation” MOS(job). HAHAHA. Man I’m cool.
# June 27th, 2005 at 9:38 pmSo basically you became a glorifed mall cop, with a gun. Horray!
# June 27th, 2005 at 9:56 pmYeah, let the colored boys do all the fightin’
# June 27th, 2005 at 10:57 pmOh man, Jesus General totally punked you! Hilarious!
# June 28th, 2005 at 6:44 amKrunk: Who is this “they” you’re talking about trying to “cancel military absentee votes”?
Before the election, almost all the left-wing blogs I read had articles about how screwed up it was, and even Randi Rhodes, the shrill, liberal answer to Ann Coulter, had a piece about it. And from this article, Official: Absentee Votes May Go Uncounted – Again, it notes:
“Congressional leaders” opposed amending it? Who’s running Congress these days? Not the Democrats, and certainly no liberals…
Chad: We generally just call you guys “chickenhawks” for not fighting the war you support when you call us “cowards” or “traitors” for not supporting the war you won’t fight.
# June 28th, 2005 at 7:01 amGlorified mall cop? How the hell would you know?
# June 28th, 2005 at 7:52 amYou could go as a civilian contractor. They will take anybody, and you can play an important support role if you really believe in the mission. Or you can pressure the government to tell the truth about the war. You can tell your representatives to treat our veterans better (believe it or not, this Administration has set veterans back, even as they cower behind our troops).
But calling someone a “chickenhawk” doesn’t shift the argument, when you are addressing someone in a leadership position. I am always stunned by the gulf of difference between what military folks have to say about the war and what chickenhawks like Rumsfeld, Limbaugh, Cheney, and Bush have to say. Clearly, it takes a chickenhawk to think that shock and awe is going to work. You have to be naive to think that the Iraqis would thrown parades for us and that we would topple Saddam without a single American death (Bush actually said this to his spiritual advisor).
Credibility matters. When you have a rash, you go to the dermatologist. You don’t go and ask Ann Coulter about it (unless you caught it from her). What does Ann know about treating skin diseases? Probably less than a dermatologist. It is just common sense.
If America needs advice about holding hands in the garden with Saudi princes, arranging business deals with the Commie dictator of vietnam, having fun while everybody is working hard, or driving a business into the ground… we have elected an expert. But on matters other than this, we should defer to people that know what they are doing.
Everybody with any kind of opinion on this war in Iraq should read Operation Truth. It is a website run by veterans and soldiers of the Iraq and Afghan wars. It is a great website and it tells you real ways that you can support the troops, rather than just sit around an talk about it. It is awesome.
# June 28th, 2005 at 9:22 amHeath C. - Because I have a friend who’s a aviator.

# June 28th, 2005 at 9:37 amAll the left wing blogs I saw were busy writing up how bush stole the election. I never saw a damn thing regarding absentee votes. Infact alot of them tried to use the same excuse the democrats used.
# June 28th, 2005 at 9:44 amKrunk, you either do not understand election law or you are condoning the violation of it. Federal law requires that every state accept military and overseas voter’s ballots if they are postmarked or otherwise dated (including a handwritten date) on or before election date. It also requires that ballots be sent to military and overseas voter long before the election (As I recall, it’s 60 days). The Department of Defense is required to tell servicemen that they can also cast a service ballot, which the military is supposed to provide, (consisting of write-ins) if they’ve lost their official ballots. States are required to count these. They are also required to count write in names on a piece of cardbard or an MRE wrapper if that’s what a soldier uses for a ballot.
With all of these methods available for legally casting votes, why would you support the casting of illegal votes? Do you also think it’s wrong to disqualify an absentee ballot that was sent three days after the election?
# June 28th, 2005 at 10:07 amHere’s a link on troop disenfranchisement
Count their votes
And here is a more general link on voting machines
Black box Voting
Black box voting isn’t a “lefty” group, there are lots of Republicans getting on board. BBV has demonstrated that they can easily hack the computerized machines and can cover their tracks. They are just pushing for paper ballots for the simple reason that they are much more secure and with a paper trail, they can be counted. Really, I can’t imagine why any honest person would want a voting system that isn’t clear and transparent… it seems like a breeding ground for conspiracy theories. If we have another polarized election like we did in 2004 and the outcome is determined in states with diebold machines, there is a big chance that people will lose faith in the political process altogether. Paper ballots are the only way to go.
# June 28th, 2005 at 10:07 amSo you think a fly boy knows our job that well? Well…I gues they do, seeing as we’re slappin those mothers in cuffs every stinkin night.
mall cop HAHAHAHA….right.
# June 28th, 2005 at 10:20 amKrunk: Do you want me to go find links to a bunch of lefty blogs that were complaining about how the military absentee ballots weren’t getting counted? All this talk about blogs isn’t the point, though.
The point is, you’re accusing “us” of not wanting to count the military absentee ballots, when in fact it was the Democrats who were pushing to get the absentee ballots counted, and the Republicans blocking them—even back in the 2000 election.
And if anyone else is to blame for military ballots not getting counted, it’s the Pentagon and the military itself who don’t get ballots to the deployed troops in time for them to vote and get sent back.
But don’t blame us.
# June 28th, 2005 at 10:27 amIt’s nuts to try and turn this into a democrat versus republican issue. Just count the damned ballots. They are over there serving. They have a right to vote. It’s a no brainer.
# June 28th, 2005 at 10:34 amWhere have I said I condoned the violation of soldiers rights to vote? I was simply pointing out the fact that liberal democrats went out of their way to throw out votes they knew were going to give republicans the edge. It doesn’t take a Cambridge political scientist to point out what direction the military sways.
If anything I never heard a damn thing from democratic leaders regarding absentee votes. That’s the bottom line. Don’t try to distort the fact Gore knew Florida military staff would of really messed up his chances. So he had no choice.
I’d like to see proof that a Republican tried to smash the absentee vote.
# June 28th, 2005 at 10:41 amKrunk: You’re confusing me—I was talking about the 2004 election, you seem to be talking about 2000. Which is fine, but can you clarify the exact charges you’re making so that we’re on the same page?
You’re saying I’ve given you no proof, but I linked to an article from the Army Times to show you what I was talking about, and you’ve linked me to … er … nothing.
# June 28th, 2005 at 11:08 amYou are right then, Krunk. It doesn’t matter whether our right to vote is being obstructed by republicans or democrats… it is our right. We shouldn’t leave any room for partisanism in this issue.
Read the link I posted above on problems with troop disenfranchisement. And read some of the other stuff. People are screwing with elections all over the place, and it just so happens that the Republicans are winning at the disenfranchisement game right now.
The solution to election fraud is NOT to make sure that you beat your opponenet at defrauding the public. The solution is to eliminate it and let the people pick our leaders. I think it is misguided to point fingers.
The Democrats and Republicans have collaborated for generations to keep third parties out of elections and to force phony choices. Pointing fingers at liberal democrats misses the issue. Just to demonstrate how deep the two-party fraud is, you should read this:
Why Conservatives do better with a Democrat in the White House
If I were a right winger, I’d be totally angry that Republican Presidents consistently increase the size of big government and pass more ambitious restrictions to personal liberties. But I think it is part of the power-sharing agreement that the two parties have. This is why you have to fight for fair elections and why we the people have to nail them to the wall whenever they mess us over… whoever is in power at the moment.
# June 28th, 2005 at 11:17 amFrom Taking The Fight To Karl, a blog of letters from liberal and Democrat soldiers & vets outraged at Rove’s stupid comments:
# June 28th, 2005 at 11:28 am“Do they make sure that the Reservists still have jobs when they come home? Do they lift a finger to look out for soldiers families while they’re away?”
I’m a veteran. I’ve consistently experienced anti-military discrimination from Liberal-leaning employers - sometimes openly. I’ve never once gotten that from a Conservative or Christian boss. In fact, they tend to look for veteran status in a resume or application.
BigT wrote:
“I am always stunned by the gulf of difference between what military folks have to say about the war and what chickenhawks like Rumsfeld, Limbaugh, Cheney, and Bush have to say.”
Same here. The vets - to a man - have nothing but contempt for the capabilities of the ‘insurgents’. Cheney & Rumsfeld especially treat them with higher regard, if that can be imagined.
# June 28th, 2005 at 2:11 pmi’d join the war effort myself but my back hurts/liberals hate america/i’m a gutless coward
# June 28th, 2005 at 4:17 pmJust so we’re clear, Chad, one more time — the reason you’re not out there is because you don’t have the guts, right? And if you did have the guts, you’d be out there? Just making sure I have it right.
# June 28th, 2005 at 4:43 pmno way guys. I’m cool.
# June 28th, 2005 at 4:49 pmDon’t you guys already know, that I do my service here in the Fatherland by killing commies and hippies, and whiney pussy liberals and such?
# June 28th, 2005 at 4:53 pmHoney bunny, I know you like to talk like the big boys, but please put down the bee bee gun before you put your widdle eye out.
# June 28th, 2005 at 5:07 pmWhat the hell does it matter, his personal bravery? Everyone feels fear upon being met with the reality of their mortality, you & I both. That’s simply human and an entirely different issue from supporting the war or not.
He has as much right to speak in support of the war - without serving - as you others do to not support it without making asses of yourselves at the same time. The military is civilian controlled. If it wasn’t, you wouldn’t be able to protest any action it might take, nor would support be meaningful in any regard. Admit it: You count on that civilian control and you’re simply trying to silence him in any underhanded & dishonorable way so you’ll get your way. Ad hominem is the choice attack of shallow, hollow men.
# June 28th, 2005 at 5:49 pmChad says: “Don’t you guys already know, that I do my service here in the Fatherland by killing commies and hippies”
Chad… dude! Are you hereby admitting that you have wantonly committed acts of murder, or intend to? Is your belief so specious that you are now advocating the violation of state and federal laws to carry out your political beliefs? Intent to murder is a crime, as is advocacy of intent to kill — are you aware of that? I know some people who are going to want to speak to you.
# June 28th, 2005 at 7:14 pmurthshu - They’re all just helping me prove the point of the post.
When they hear something they don’t like… They can’t argue against it, so they turn to personal mud-slinging in their desperation to offend. It’s really quite entertaining. Sad. But entertaining how their shallow minds work.
# June 28th, 2005 at 7:20 pmRob - Yes. I’m openly admitting to wantonly committing acts of awesomenessity, by killing of the scruge of the planet.
I have always advocated the silencing of opposition by means of
1) murder
2) sabotage
3) blackmail
4) anything else you can imagine
Go ahead and have your buddies gimme a call.
# June 28th, 2005 at 7:23 pmHAHAH!! Here we go again….where do all these people come from? Shouldn’t you all be out protesting something right now? Stop wasting your breathe over here.
…advocacy of intent to kill HAHAHAHA….and to imply that your gonna go tell on him is freakin HILARIOUS!!!!! Go on…go tell on him and see what happens. You think cops are gonna be your little lap dogs and chase him down and put him away for something he wrote on his website that does not “advocate” ANY “intention” to ANY crime.
Cops have better things to do than sit and listen to whiney little liberals trying to get their edge by stooping lower and lower everyday…if you guys don’t win one way, you jut stoop lower the next time. (of course excluding our very own Democrat, Guav)
“Very Interesting” and “Enlist You Cowards” and “Urthshu”….you all have absolutely no common sense and you aren’t going to win anything over here…you’re wasting you’re breathe.
You all brought knives to a gun fight.
# June 28th, 2005 at 9:03 pmRead closer, Heath. I’m no liberal. And I’ll thank you kindly to remember that.
# June 28th, 2005 at 9:09 pmSo your just a common butt troll. Hmm.
# June 28th, 2005 at 9:16 pmHeath - uhh… regarding urthshu… i dunno who’s side he’s on, if any. So I wouldent jump to conclusions and bunch him up with the other loonies. Maybe you should read all his comments a bit better.
Guav - I missed that comment you directed at me earlier on.
I know plenty of folks who believe in the good that this war is bringing… and plenty of them are over there fighting. I don’t think I’ve met anyone who was a supporter and “won’t fight”. It’s more a matter of who can or can’t.
Wait. Thats not really the case either.
Start over. It’s people believing that democracy blooming in that filthy desert as a very good thing. Obviously democracy doesn’t spring up over night, and lives/time/money are all costs of freedom. Thats how our free country started, and it’s the same with Iraq.
Now… about “calling you cowards and traitors for not supporting the war”. When I come across wack-jobs like Simon and his whole “F*** The Troops” filth…. this guy is a scum sucking rat bastard, whom I’d gladly murder in the first degree. Preferably with a blunt object. Just because someone doesn’t think we should be bagging the psycho ‘rabs who blow up random civilians so they can get laid in their virgin heaven….. doesn’t make em a “coward” or “traitor”. It just means they lack moral judgement. And none of us here have ever called someone that for just that reason. But I could be mistaken… i know lots of stuff gets said when we’re all worked up over something… so don’t hold that to me… but at least you know how I feel about it.
# June 28th, 2005 at 9:21 pmwho’s a butt troll?
# June 28th, 2005 at 9:30 pmI think that was directed at me. Entertaining, the firebombs tossed around here.
# June 28th, 2005 at 9:35 pmMy ’side’ is American. If you mean left-right, I’m a Republican from NY.
heh. this is firebomb country. ain’t nobody’s safe.
# June 28th, 2005 at 9:44 pmBling bling?
# June 28th, 2005 at 9:45 pmWHOOPS!! Man…yah, I feel stoopid…I was reading that one where you were actually backing Chad up. I thought it said he had no right to speak without serving… DOH!!
So I offer my public apology…any friend of the fighters is a friend of mine…wait a minute…that’s like a double positive…or something…I’m gonna stop while I’m ahead.
Urthshu =
# June 28th, 2005 at 9:49 pmI give up. (walks out of post)
# June 28th, 2005 at 9:59 pm
i go away for a few days and i see the trolls ’round ‘ere have settled in and made themselves quiet comfy *dusts off the ole CluebyFour*
# June 29th, 2005 at 6:06 amheh. don’t get yer hopes up. I think most of them have finished their drive-by’s.
# June 29th, 2005 at 6:09 amWhy don’t you work with me at Halliburton if you can’t make the cut for the military. We have lots of jobs for people in Iraq that know firearms. I know you have been just looking for a way to serve, serve with us!
# June 29th, 2005 at 1:49 pmooh! ooh! there went one just now!
# June 29th, 2005 at 3:01 pmQuick Liz!!! Git Em!
# June 29th, 2005 at 4:14 pmI ain’t trying to be a troll or anything… and I am a big supporter of 2nd Amendment rights (and all of them for that matter).
But you guys seem cool enough. What’s with the pro-Bush stuff? Is it just anti-Liberal? Anti-hippy?
I mean, no offense to any of you, but Bush is kind of a whiny dork. He has bad ideas all the time (national ID cards, raising the deficit, supporting CAFTA, weakening the dollar, and he just says the same thing over and over again). This is a fact that has been demonstrably true for 50 years… Republican presidents consistently accomplish more government expansion than Democrat presidents. The big reason is that Republicans tend to stick with their party more than democrats, and so they pass more legislation while in office. And, in general, the purpose of legislation is to create rules about what you cannot do and to raise money.
Plus, no offense to the troops that are busting their a$$es in Iraq… but the war is the most retarded idea ever. I’m not too sweet on hippies either, but just about everything that the hippes were saying before the war (about WMDs, about the timeline, about the casualties, about being percieved as aggressors, about losing clout in the world) has been proven true. For Bush to be proven wrong by a hippy on all counts, means that he is weaker and dumber than a hippy (and, I have never smelt him, but possible just as fragrant).
Right now, Communist China…a freakin dictatorship… is considered to be more righteous than the US. I never thought I’d see the day that people would love the red chinese more than the USA… but thanks to these dorks in the white house…. that day has come.
You should all defect. You can still have guns and hate hippies and all that… but start sticking up for the Constitution instead of political powder puffs like Karl Rove. You don’t have to be a Democrat or anything remotely resembling one… but just ditch the losers that are wrecking America. They are a sinking ship. I don’t want to see you all go down like chumps.
Remember how Corey Feldman got stuck in a Michael Jackson phase for a while… wearing a glove even. That dude had all the women on his jock and all that. Then he just got stuck in Neverland. He went from being a hot commodity to starring in lots of really bad sequels. And now, nobody will hire him anymore. There are a lot of people in “Generation W” who are either going to wake up and rip off the glove… or are going to be stuck as extras in like Meatballs 23… I don’t want to see that happen to you guys.
# June 29th, 2005 at 5:08 pmWhy do I always get silence whenever I try to recruit for Halliburton- it’s great, you get to play with guns AND you make 15k per month! Sure there’s that thing about getting captured and barbequed in the time square, but isn’t that a small sacrifice for my net worth— oh, and America?
Oh, got to go– Lynne, get the defibrulator! Hope to see you on Fox News!
# June 29th, 2005 at 5:34 pmHey, Liz, we can use women in Iraq too! By the way, how are you with a leash and a whip?

# June 29th, 2005 at 6:24 pmI don’t do that fraternity spanking stuff. Save it for the college republicans.
Bush still whines like a little girl with a broken nail as his poll numbers tank. “It’s real hard work…” blah blah blah. I don’t think y’all are a bunch of Ivy League Cravat-wearing, limo-riding, wine-swilling, coxswains …. but don’t ask don’t tell, right.
# June 29th, 2005 at 6:28 pmYou’ll get over Bush, don’t worry. It took me some time, too.

# June 29th, 2005 at 6:49 pmI don’t think the JBS is stupid when they talk about deficits and republican presidents. They are spot on. And they are right about the UN, too. Read your own link, it says Get US out of the United Nations.
We need leaders who are loyal to AMERICA, not a bunch of corporate lapdancers.
# June 29th, 2005 at 6:51 pmFrom what I hear, y’all aren’t real big on standing up and working, either. But I won’t clown you about it like everyone else does. I just think you should read about the Bush Presidency instead of supporting him because he’s GOP.

# June 29th, 2005 at 7:03 pmDicky DooDah, KBR offered the better half a 125K year long contract when he was in iraq the first time. he turned it down. he’s got real work to do in the sandbox without having to babysit a bunch of whinny contractors
# June 29th, 2005 at 7:04 pmonce again well said liz
# June 29th, 2005 at 7:05 pmI pay taxes is what I do for the government. And I don’t try to weasel out of paying my share. And I’m willing to pay more if it means armor for troops and benefits for vets. But not if they are going to give handouts to corporations that outsource American jobs.
Halliburton moved their company up in the Cayman Islands so they doesn’t have to pay money to support the troops. Then they reamed the US taxpayers by overcharging them.
# June 29th, 2005 at 7:05 pmI agree JJ, with everything you said except about my name.
You guys rock guns, and they are cool. But Big Tobacco kills millions each year, legally, and gets paid. It’s tough. That’s all
But, hey. I ain’t gonna go on about Bush anymore. Sorry if I offended. I just don’t like him. I don’t have a problem with Republicans, I was one until I had to switch to Pat Buchanan.
# June 29th, 2005 at 7:10 pmWhinny contractors? We need horses too in Iraq, you know any
He turned it down because he’s chicken. Those whinny contractors add to my bottom line, and all they ask is a bucket of oats and a straw bed to sleep in.
Ah, forget it, maybe we’ll just outsource the war to China- we can pay them 20 cents and hour and I don’t have to hear stuff like “Why don’t we have health benefits” and “Why isn’t the oil flowing” and “Why did my coworkers just get barbequed in the town square”. Of course, they may say that, but it doesn’t matter since I don’t speak Chinese:cool:
Oh, well, time to retire to my undisclosed location. Ask not what your country can do for you, Ask what you can do for KBR.
# June 29th, 2005 at 7:10 pm’so they doesn’t have’ ??? and overcharging is part of the game. they all do.

# June 29th, 2005 at 7:40 pm“and overcharging is part of the game. they all do.
paying tax,,,,,,,good boy.”
You sound like a liberal when you say that. They shouldn’t overcharge. We are in a massive deficit. It weakens the dollar. And it means that our troops get less.
In WWII, everybody did their share. Pay taxes, bought war bonds, recycled…. It’s really a small sacrifice to pay taxes like a “good boy” when you have friends over there. I sure ain’t going to Iraq… but I ain’t gonna deny them helmets either. That’s just cold. I don’t care if you are Grover Norquist himself… it’s just evil to get tight with equipment when you blow so much cheddar on stupid stuff like waste and corporate fraud.
# June 29th, 2005 at 7:40 pmdid you just call me libreal?
