Harriet Miers
10.04.05The Volokh Conspiracy posted about this Harriet Miers and her feelings on the Second Ammendment (capitalized out of respect ).
The same liberties that ensure a free society make the innocent vulnerable to those who prevent rights and privileges and commit senseless and cruel acts. Those precious liberties include free speech, freedom to assemble, freedom of liberties, access to public places, the right to bear arms and freedom from constant surveillance. We are not willing to sacrifice these rights because of the acts of maniacs.
I don’t really know much about this woman… cept for what I hear on talk radio. And the talk hasn’t been completely nice. But she respects the individuals right to keep and to bare arms, and this is the number one point I was searching for.
All I hear is “Thank God she’s a woman!”… lah dee frickin’ dah.

Yeah, the real problem with Harriet Miers is that she’s more like a friend of GWB’s than an actual Judge. She’s never been a judge and has a minimal amount of experience with law. Granted, she likes the Amendments. Well, most people do. But there’s no telling what she thinks when it comes to considering things like militia versus private citizen. Having no background means she might think the Big Second only gives that right to professional soldiers or something crazy like that.
That seems a little rambling, but I think it has a point, somewhere.
# October 5th, 2005 at 12:37 amDubya picked her not cause of her expirience but because she can be trusted not to become a liberal once she is on the supreme court, unlike so many others.
# October 5th, 2005 at 1:24 pmI know this doesnt have a thing to do with this subject but I heard something really funny in regards to all that sweet oil in the middle east, “Screw ‘em all, we can drill through glass!”
# October 5th, 2005 at 4:46 pmChad said “All I hear is “Thank God she’s a woman!”.” — haha. Well said. That was the distinct impression i got, but I think this is the first place I’ve seen someone actually express the sentiment. Maybe I just hang out in the wrong places ;).
# October 6th, 2005 at 4:23 am“Screw ‘em all, we can drill through glass!” - hehehe, what’s their country doing on our oil, right? he he.
# October 6th, 2005 at 4:31 amI have three words: Janice Rogers Brown.
# October 6th, 2005 at 9:17 amre: Janice Rogers Brown. I can see why she would be considered more acceptable than Meirs. However, wasn’t her appointment to the DC circuit appeals court held up for two years in the Senate? Do you there could have been a repeat of that were Brown the nomination?
# October 6th, 2005 at 10:48 amThis administration and the Republican MAJORITY need a major wedding tackle transplant. I don’t get it. They have a majority just about everywhere and own the Whitehouse. They should be taking it to the freakin’ Demoncrats and ramming the most conservative appointees and legislation down their throats ’til they poop Bibles. Who won the bleedin’ election?
# October 7th, 2005 at 11:38 pmIs it just me or is this Presidency becoming increasingly frustrating for all the wrong reasons?
# October 7th, 2005 at 11:39 pmfamily guy:
# October 8th, 2005 at 8:49 amPeter: hi im looking for potty training books
salesman: the standard of course is “everybody poops”
Peter: well, we’re catholics sooo…
salesman: then you’ll want “your a notty child and thats concentrated evil coming out the back of you”
I’m on Stevil’s side. This is a once-in-a-generation chance to pack the court with judges who will counteract the Ruth Bader Ginsburg voting bloc. We need judges who will vote like Antonin Scalia and Clarence Thomas. This idea that Sandra Day O’Connor was a woman who had the swing vote, so she MUST be replaced by another woman with another swing vote, is all wrong. I’m just trusting that Dubya knows Harriet Miers well enough and knows what he’s doing.
And re. oil: we need to be drilling up in Alaska at the ANWR.
# October 9th, 2005 at 1:00 pmExactly, and yes we should be drilling in ANWR.
BUT more so we should be giving hugh tax breaks/refunds to/for diesel vehicles, removing ALL taxes on diesel fuel and gearing-up a massive national biodiesel production effort. Hydrogen freakin’ engines are a diversionary ruse used by the car and energy complex to extend the life of gasoline powered vehicles… F’that.
One thing this country has in abundance is land to grow vegetable oil producing crops, we have the ability if coupled with the foresight and the will to have an economy independent of those Medieval B@stards in the Middle East.
I run my diesel generator on biodiesel and other than replacing fuel lines and a bizzaro smell of french fries when it’s running it work is perfectly, infact better. BUT the worst thing is I have to buy the stuff from a ‘effen Liberal hippy co-op damnit, that sure racks my ginny! Why isn’t some corporate capitalist pig making bank on this deal?
# October 9th, 2005 at 9:44 pmI can deal with the smell of french fries. But I can’t stand hippies.
# October 10th, 2005 at 11:37 pmI heard a story but couldnt find a source on it where a stupid PETA member was protesting ANWAR and got eaten by a grizzly bear, even if it might not be true its still freakin hilarious.
# October 12th, 2005 at 10:35 amHm, maybe you’re thinking of Timothy Treadwell? I don’t know if he was a PETA member, but he was an environmental activist who opposed drilling in ANWR. That all came to an end when he got eaten by a grizzly up there in October 2003.
The environmentalists have this idea that nature is a fragile, easily destroyed thing. Seems to me that the history of civilization is the story of constantly trying to tame and beat nature back. It’s incredibly tough and resilient, as Timothy Treadwell found out.
# October 12th, 2005 at 11:13 amYa that might be who, I dont know but its still freakin hilarious how stupid people are.
# October 12th, 2005 at 5:38 pmTimothy Treadwell was an idiot, ’nuff said…

# October 12th, 2005 at 10:14 pmWhat volume of oil is NAWR thought to be contain?
I did a quick search on google, but the figures listed differed vastly (as much as one or two orders of magnitude!) between websites. I can appreciate that the figure is an unknown but do any of you guys have some links to some estimates made by reputable sources?
# October 13th, 2005 at 2:50 pmANWR even, my bad. Sorry.
# October 13th, 2005 at 2:51 pmI don’t think they know… let’s hope a ‘effen big bunch!
I also learnt we have oil deposits that exceed that of all the Saudi’s (I sh!t you not) under Colorado n’ Utah BUT Clinton went and made the area’s National Monument’s so you can’t drill on ‘em… go figure.
# October 14th, 2005 at 9:02 pmReserves that exceed what the Saudi’s have, no way! Have you got a link to that? I’d be real interested to read up on it.
# October 16th, 2005 at 8:47 amShe’s gone! Thank God, now maybe we can get a ball-bustin’, ass-kicking, no nonsence Conservative.
Teezed I need to refind ‘em, keep checkin’ back.
