Thanks chad. Simon: Funny tho, I didn't say the words "divine inspiration". I did allude to it, . Even if it wasn't divinely inspired the character of Jesus Christ is second to nothing. If it wasn't true then Jesus is a mad man or a figment of some genius' unbelievable imagination. I may be wrong but what other book is there that is accurate historically, presently, and futuristically? When I say presently what I mean is you can experience the Word of God, you can see its promises fullfilled. Futuristically, I mean it has prophecies that are taking place before our eyes, I posted about this over at 3G. If there is another book out there that has that kind of power then it is a must read. One thing to remember about prophecy, if it misses it in one small place it is a false prophecy. To me, I hope you agree, the Bible set its own standards, to the human mind unreachable. It has a law that if someone gives a prophecy and it doesn't come to pass, they are a false prophet. So is the Bible calling itself a false prophetic book? So far it hasn't missed any prophecies, not one. The Bible set its standards high for a reason, to ensure only God breathed utterances would succeed. If I were a gambling man, I like my odds.

I agree Simon. The Bible is an awesome book. It is written in a way that it actually reads you. It is filled with information such as; historical, medical, scientific, tomorrows news today, and a beautiful love story. Not to mention the most powerful persona in literature, Jesus Christ. If we credit Jesus Christ to the power of a man's pen and imagination and leave such a figure in the pages of history without investigating his claims. If we did those things, we would be committing an intellectual crime. Jesus is a literary miracle. Not one flaw found in his character, even tho many told his story, but history doesn't disagree with what they wrote. Men, women, boys and girls laid down their life for such a figure. Some were eyewitness to Jesus' life while others were not, they all suffered the same fate - for the most part.

If we lay such a powerful character on the rickety door steps of the shack of man's wisdom then we've given the ancients a huge slap in the face while holding a few poor authors in the highest esteem. The Bible is like tapestry, with truth woven so neatly and giving a beautiful picture of its main point, Jesus the Christ.

Besides it was prophesied that Messiah would come before the destruction of Jerusalem and its Temple, it fell in 70AD. Jews, even now, will not name Daniel as a prophet for the words that he wrote, Daniel 9:26. Jesus even said the Temple will fall, Matthew 24:1-2. The book of Matthew and the book of Daniel were written before 70AD.

Not trying to convert you or force it down your throat. I know, you being such a thoughtful and intelligent person, would enjoy reading a radical perspective.

One thing I agree with you on, "Christian" in the taditional sense is not for me either. I abhor unquestioned traditions. I base my entire belief system off of first century Apostles, not the suppossed "church fathers" of a later date. I don't try and redeem my beliefs with greek philosophy as the "church fathers" did. I ground myself into scripture and focus on being like Christ as much as humanly possible. Sorry to sound so preachy...

I mean that I don't want Jesus Christ or christianity in my life. Plain and simple: I'm not interested. But if YOU want to follow Chrisitianity because you think it's the best thing for you, i respect your decision. I have my own system of morals/ethics, my own way of leading my life, and my own concept of God, and they work fine for me.

But this doesn't mean that i don't (for example) find insight in the Bible. I have never read the full book, but i certainly intend to some day soon. Not only because of its massive historical importance, but also because of its amazing insights. But I can guarantee you that I will not decide to become "Chrisitian" in the traditional sense, because for me, it is not useful.

Simon: I agree many "believers" are just performing mental gymnastics and not allowing their faith to transform their heart. It makes me sick to think that "christian" is a blanket statement for anyone who wants to wear a label. There is little anyone can do.

If your interested read this parable by Jesus:

Mat 13:24 Another parable put he forth unto them, saying, The kingdom of heaven is likened unto a man which sowed good seed in his field:
Mat 13:25 But while men slept, his enemy came and sowed tares among the wheat, and went his way.
Mat 13:26 But when the blade was sprung up, and brought forth fruit, then appeared the tares also.
Mat 13:27 So the servants of the householder came and said unto him, Sir, didst not thou sow good seed in thy field? from whence then hath it tares?
Mat 13:28 He said unto them, An enemy hath done this. The servants said unto him, Wilt thou then that we go and gather them up?
Mat 13:29 But he said, Nay; lest while ye gather up the tares, ye root up also the wheat with them.
Mat 13:30 Let both grow together until the harvest: and in the time of harvest I will say to the reapers, Gather ye together first the tares, and bind them in bundles to burn them: but gather the wheat into my barn.

A tare is false grain. Be certain they will get their just reward. I have been a hypocrit in my life, it isn't right, at this point in my life I'm true blue and transparent. I'd much rather follow Christ with "false grain" around me than to not follow him at all. Don't let the tares discourage you from giving Jesus a serious consideration.
