Further, I don’t necessarily trust that any given port is safe, even if owned and operated by an American company. Beef up security all around, and then move forward.

Now for something more important:
What about this whole Dubai ports issue. I like how it’s kinda blurred the traditional political lines. All argument about whether a change in ownership poses a security risk aside, I think the most important point is that Dubai Ports World is owned by the government of the UAE, it is not a private company. If DPW was a port-management company that happened to based in the UAE, I would say that they absolutely have the right to buy the port terminal if they can afford it. But having a foreign government control ports all along the eastern seaboard I think poses a security problem. It has nothing to do with the fact that they’re arab, I wouldn’t want the British, French, or any other country’s government, controlling what is already aknowledged to be a weak point in our security system. (Note: The previous company was a privately-owned British firm.)
