Abdul Rahman
03.28.06KABUL, Afghanistan - An Afghan man who had faced the death penalty for abandoning Islam for Christianity was freed from prison and went into hiding Tuesday in Kabul after Muslim clerics threatened his life. Italy said it may grant him asylum. (link)
I think we should all get together, and try to understand the muslim government. Why would they want to kill Abdul?
I mean… we all know that they aren’t fascists at all. Cos the Media tells me that US Soldiers are the fascists. And the media never lies.
Ah, who am I kiddin. We all know that most liberals could care less if this guys “basic human rights” were violated. All they want to do is point out everything wrong with our side. Because the rest of the world is freakin perfect… and big bad America is the evil, oil-loving (who isnt’?), monster. And we don’t care who dies, as long as we get enough oil to run my 7.3 liter diesel rig.
Funny how you never hear them crying about Germany, France and Russia with the oil for food scandel. The only signs you see at these moronic protests, are no blood for oil, bush = hitler, America is fascist, and other inane dribble.
When will the common sense class get a break? I’m tired of this leftist nay-say, and pessimism. When will they ever look at the bright side of the thousands of dead terrorists, and the birth of democracy in that blasted desert-wasteland of a country?

…..um….. still nuke em
# March 28th, 2006 at 12:16 pmI don’t think some people will ever have common sense. I deal with these people all the time here at Poly. The only thing to do is point and laugh.
# March 28th, 2006 at 12:54 pmI agree with you totally here, because understanding and accepting are two totally different things. Killing Rahman is totally wrong, but i still want to know why exactly it’s happening so that i can try to change it.
# March 28th, 2006 at 4:54 pmIts happening because Muslims are in power. Although I support our wars in the mid east, democracy (in the way we see it) in that cesspool is a pipedream.
# March 28th, 2006 at 5:24 pmYou just swung the truth hammer. Beautiful.
# March 28th, 2006 at 8:52 pmNicely put Chad.
# March 28th, 2006 at 10:02 pmWell I must agrue that there is one option that can solve the problem with the left, GENOCIDE
# March 29th, 2006 at 6:51 amI mean argue*
# March 29th, 2006 at 6:51 amThe birth of democracy? Don’t you mean the birth of theocracy? The theocracy that wants to execute a man because he’s a Christian?
I don’t understand what you’re trying to say in this post. Are you mad at the Afghanistani government for practicing shari’ah or are you mad at “most liberals” for complaining that the Afghanistani government is practicing shari’ah? Do you want to bomb Muslims in their “wasteland” or do you want to “liberate” them? Do you want to give them democracy, or do you want to complain that the democracy we gave them allowed them to institute Islamic law that makes Christianity a capital offense?
Who are you mad at?
# March 29th, 2006 at 9:13 amI’m refering to the democracy that we are (hopefully) birthing in Iraq. With Iraq becoming a stepping stone to the surrounding muslim countries.
Mad at the Afghanistani govt? Not really. They’re doing what I expect them to do.
I’m mad at all the whiney liberals who can only point out how terrible our great country is, when other countries pull this kind of crap.
# March 29th, 2006 at 9:37 amI didn’t realize you were talking about Iraq, ’cause you posted a story about something that’s going on in Afghanistan.
As far as a “hopefully birthing” democracy in Iraq goes, I wouldn’t hold your breath. There’s a difference between “democracy” and a Democracy. The goal was turning Iraq into a Western-style liberal democracy friendly to America that would set an example for the other theocratic and authoritarian regimes in the region to follow has not happened.
Small-D “democracy” itself is not a victory, because democracy is not inherently good (Hitler was elected, after all). Afghanistan has elected an Islamic theocracy (although not to Taliban levels, thankfully), Iraq has elected a mullah-dominated, Iran-aligned Shi’ite government bordering on Islamic theocracy. Hell, the Palestinians just held the freest elections any Arab country as ever had, and they elected Hamas.
The thing that you guys who say this stuff don’t understand is that not everyone in the world views democracy as a great thing, or a system they want to live by. That’s why you can’t give democracy to people—if they want it, they have to fight for it themselves, like we did.
Would we be as proud of our history, our revolution, and our democracy if the French had just invaded and installed it for us?
# March 29th, 2006 at 11:31 amGuav, that was beautiful.
# March 29th, 2006 at 8:51 pmThats a good point, Guav. Why are you the only one who can disagree with me, yet still earn my respect?
Whatever - you can learn a thing or two from Guav.
And Guav… I just learned that yer 33 (flickr). damn dude. I feel…. so young and tender… haha. Can this be true?
Anyhow. I do recognize that not all countries realize that democracy is a good thing. And I do realize that if the French gave us anything.. well.. that would be a joke in itself… at least nowadays.
But, once again… this post was more geared to the atrocities that go on elsewhere in this big ol’ world. And how you never hear the liberals crying out for poor ol’ Abdul.
# March 29th, 2006 at 9:45 pmChad said, “Why are you the only one who can disagree with me, yet still earn my respect?”
Speaking of gay cowboys… hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahah
# March 29th, 2006 at 9:56 pmThats a deep burn, my “friend”.
# March 29th, 2006 at 10:07 pmBut seriously. All joking, and drunken commenting aside. *Reaches for beer # 7*
Guav is probably the only dissident to produce a good argument. Wether or not you’re sexually attracted to him, JJ.
# March 29th, 2006 at 10:11 pmooohhhh burrnnn … it stings right down to the core of my being. Im on root beer #8… XedgeX biieettcchh
# March 29th, 2006 at 10:42 pmIs that a diss? I’m confused. I mean… I won’t deny that straight edge was cool…. in tenth grade…
# March 29th, 2006 at 10:49 pmooooo burrrrn.
It’s ok. xStr8 edgex is a way of life for but only the strong in mind and body… girlie men such as yerself can’t hang…. ooooooo burrnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn
# March 30th, 2006 at 7:42 amoh yea… “diss”? The last time I used that word was in the 5th grade when everybody was wearing Adidas with no shoe strings and listening to Run DMC. hahahahaha burn baby… ouch that sting…..
# March 30th, 2006 at 7:44 amOh thats it, mister. Thats the last straw. It’s go time. You and me, mano y mano… in a vicious game of scabble. The true battle of the wits. Thats right, and I ain’t bluffin.
I’ll see you on the field. Sassy pants.
# March 30th, 2006 at 8:10 amWell Chad, I think I do a lot better than most of the people I know would. I do come from liberal-ass D.C… that’s “Bush = Hitler” territory. And I still think “understanding the underlying causes of the Muslim discontent” is a worthwhile activity.
can we play Pictionary instead?
# March 30th, 2006 at 8:45 amJJ, I don’t know why you keep impying that I’m a gay cowboy. What would make you think that? Hahaha
Chad, yeah, I’m really 33, unfortunately, an old fart compared to you pesky little whippersnappers!
As far as Abdul goes, how would you know if the liberals were “crying” over his situation? I seriously doubt you guys read very many lefty blogs. Well that’s how I found out about his plight, because they were all talking about it. Two links I have handy, Mother Jones posted about it, and the Liberal Avenger said:
As far as talking about atrocities that happen in other countries, you don’t really post about them either. Americans, whether on the right or the left, generally write about America, not other countries. I mean, it’s not like you’ve posted dozens of entries on the genocide in Sudan.
I think you guys just want every complaint about an American fault or action to be immediately followed by a worse complaint about someone else, but nobody does that, why would they? That’s an unrealistic expectation. Personally, I don’t post about the screwed up stuff someone in, for example, Algeria does because I’m not Algerian—their actions don’t reflect on me, and my taxes don’t fund their government, you know? And pointing out how screwed up the French government is doesn’t justify our own faults. I don’t really CARE how bad the French government is because that’s their problem. America is mine.
I mean, I do understand why you guys might think that someone like me, who complains about the American government frequently, “hates America.” But I don’t, I LOVE America, and I want it to be the best it can be, so when I think we’re doing something wrong, I want us to stop doing it, understand? These two quotes summarize my feelings on the matter:
So you have to understand, it’s my love for America that drives me to criticize it, not hate.
As far as Straight Edge goes, it doesn’t bother me that you guys make fun of it, but I think it’s kinda funny, because I’d say that not doing drugs and not drinking is pretty conservative
And why is it that drugs are considered bad but alcohol is fully embraced? I never understood that very much, seeing how destructive alcohol is (to individuals and to families).
Dang, thread is DEF.
# March 30th, 2006 at 4:27 pmDude, Guav, you are one sassy cowboy. I think you could give Chad a run for his money. Of yea… i called Chad the gay cowboy, not you. I am doing my best not to call you any names… I know, I know, its a hard way to go. And yea about Sudan, I feel for those people. My heart goes out to them. But as you have said before… we are not a world police. When we go off to far off lands to kill people it had better be in our national interest. You know, oil and all that. My Durango won’t run on a mixture of hemp and granola.
One more thing: ST8EDGE FO LIFE! Chad just doesn’t understand.
# March 30th, 2006 at 6:00 pmHey Chad, are you going to the gun show this weekend?
# March 30th, 2006 at 6:00 pmHeck yea. The one here in CDA, right? Come by my house, and we’ll roll together!
# March 30th, 2006 at 6:03 pmI thought it was in Spokane… if its in I-dee-ho i’ll give ya a call if I can make it.
# March 30th, 2006 at 6:05 pmOh nevermind. I just checked the fairgrounds site, and ours isn’t till may 6th. Must be in yer town. I guess I’ll give you a jingle, and we’ll meet up.
We can wear cowboy hats, and hold hands as we walk up and down the isles of beautiful weaponry. So romantic.
# March 30th, 2006 at 6:06 pmNo, no, no Chad… you got this all wrong. In all relationships there is a dominant partner and a submissive partner (I learned that in my entirely un-liberal “Intercultural Communications” class I took when I was a Freshman). You are the submissive one so I will allow you to hold onto the beltloop of my extra-tight wranglers with your pinkie finger… no hand holding. You must also never make eye contact with me and you will always walk behind me. You will speak only when you are asked a question. Biiieettttccchchhh hahahaa
# March 30th, 2006 at 6:22 pmUhh… my firepower beats yours. Yer my beeatch.
# March 30th, 2006 at 7:28 pmHere in restrictive NYC, my “firepower” consists of a CRK folder and a Stinger (hey, no jokes about the phallic-looking Stinger, it’s effective). But I think within two years I’ll be moving to Texas, so I can finally have loud toys that blow things up again
# March 30th, 2006 at 8:25 pmThat Stinger looks like something straight outta Brokeback country.
# March 30th, 2006 at 8:54 pmMy firepower consists of a piece of gum, a 2X4, and a paper clip, with which i can create a 500 megaton nuclear device.
# March 30th, 2006 at 10:04 pmGuav - What about that picture of yer men of honor packing? Or is that only legal in upstate?
# March 31st, 2006 at 5:34 pmMy firepower consists of a Mossberg 500 20 gauge, a remington magnum somethin or other 12 gauge, and a dinky little .22
# March 31st, 2006 at 7:58 pmYeah, the wedding was in upstate NY. In New York City and the immediate surrounding areas where I live now, the gun laws are much more restrictive, as I’m sure you know.
I have a Mossberg 500 and a Ruger 10/22 I dropped into an aftermarket bullpup stock just for fun, but they live at my friend’s house upstate, I haven’t played with them for years
I think when I finally move to gun-friendly parts I’m going to have to get a .50 BMG just to compensate for the last 10 years I’ve spent gunless haha
