Dear President Bush
04.07.06Got this in my inbox. Thanks Rick.
I’m about to plan a little trip with my family and extended family, and I would like to ask you to assist me. I’m going to walk across the border from the U.S. into Mexico, and I need to make a few arrangements. I know you can help with this. Because I only expect to be in Mexico long enough for my children to get a quality free education (or until they want to have children), I plan to skip all the legal stuff like visas, passports, immigration quotas and laws. I’m sure they handle those things the same way you do here. So, would you mind telling your buddy, President Vicente Fox, that I’m on my way over? Please let him know that I will be expecting the following:
1. Free medical care for my entire family.
2. English-speaking government bureaucrats for all services I might need, whether I use them or not.
3. All government forms need to be printed in English.
4. I want my kids to be taught by English-speaking teachers.
5. Schools need to include classes on American culture and history.
6. I want my kids to see the American flag flying on the top of the flag pole at their school with the Mexican flag flying lower down.
7. Please plan to feed my kids at school for both breakfast and lunch.
8. I will need a local Mexican driver’s license so I can get easy access to government services.
9. I do not plan to have any car insurance, and I won’t make any effort to learn local traffic laws.
10. In case one of the Mexican police officers does not get the memo from Pres. Fox to leave me alone, please be sure that all police officers speak English.
11. I plan to fly the U.S. flag from my house top, put flag decals on my car, and have a gigantic celebration on July 4th. I do not want any complaints or negative comments from the locals.
12. I would also like to have a nice job without paying any taxes, and don’t enforce any labor laws or tax laws.
13. Please tell all the people in the country to be extremely nice and never say a critical word about me, or about the strain I might place on the economy. I know this is an easy request because you already do all these things for all the people who come to the U.S. from Mexico. I am sure that Pres. Fox won’t mind returning the favor if you ask him nicely. However, if he gives you any trouble, just invite him to go quail hunting with your V.P.
If companies like Walmart weren’t giving illegals jobs, they wouldn’t be here.
# April 8th, 2006 at 5:31 amhaha, that last sentence was great! This couldn’t be anymore truer. What we allow to happen here would never happen in any other country in the world.
# April 8th, 2006 at 6:55 amI can’t believe all the debate about immigration. Shut down the border first. Use the 65 billion dollars that the US spends each year on illegals to build the wall and hire enough border security. Then deal with the issue of who stays and who goes back.
# April 8th, 2006 at 9:44 amIn a rare instance of agreement with Whatever; we need to extend tough penalties on companies employing illegals, say $50,000 per illegal and an increased tax penalty for the year/s of their illegal employment.
I learnt an interesting immigration fact this week. Here in Commiefornia the illegal colonization frontline (don’t forget we’re being colonized/invaded/settled) the State’s prison population is just under 50% illegal aliens (actual government stat–not right-wing hysteria)! SO that’s $750 million a year… why don’t we send a bill to the illegal prison resident’s Countries, you have to wonder?
# April 8th, 2006 at 10:45 amall i can say is amen
# April 8th, 2006 at 11:35 ami still cant believe folks are “debating” the “immigration issue” . This is an INVASION. We americans are importing poverty. We are NOT responsible for feeding, clothing, medicating, and educating the whole freakin’ world. Come here legally and you’re AOK, heck i’ll even congradulate you myself. Come here illegally and mooch off the law abiding, tax paying citizens and prepare to see the backside of uncle sam’s derrier, as you get the almighty boot back to whatever place you came from AND the bill for getting you there. At least thats the way it should be. We need an electric fence and Marines at the boarder with shoot to kill orders. People caught hiring illegals need their buisness license yanked. There’s a reason why we have laws in this country and its not just to give our politicians something to do in their off time. The 12 million or so that are already here must be deported. Show them we mean buisness and you’ll see this issue come to a screeching halt.
# April 9th, 2006 at 4:59 amI’ve heard that illegals are sending 17 billion dollars back to Mexico per year. Which is their second largest cashcow. Oil being their first. 3000 per day is crossing our border and that is 1,095,000 per year. Before long Mexico will win the war? I’ve also heard that if the illegals were deported then our economy would fold, does anyone really believe that?
# April 10th, 2006 at 5:45 amMore like, BOOM, hehe, twice Ive said boom today (make that three) (what am I on, I sound like road warrior)
# April 10th, 2006 at 10:17 amnope, our economy would *NOT* fold.
for all their honking and bleating
about “taking the jobs americans wont do” its a buncha crapola. americans can and WILL take those jobs but right now the illegals are taking them for less pay. the benefits of hiring illegals are just too tempting for many employers to ignore. less pay, no matching of medicare taxes and not having to carry workers comp insurance (and guess who foots the bill when they end up in the ER?), or offer health benefits. just cash, under the table. thats why i say those seedy bastirds (misspelled on purpose to avoid the comment moderator) need their buisness license yanked.
# April 10th, 2006 at 1:24 pmAs the astute Mr. Stevil said earlier getting asshat companies like Walmart and the many others to stop hiring illegals would be an easier and equally effective way to stop immigration as closing the border. The employers are just as guilty as the employees, if not more so. Walmart is turning a huge profit off illegal labor.
# April 10th, 2006 at 3:38 pmI read this letter to my husband (he was brought here illegally when he was a baby but he became a citizen under that whole amnesty thing a few years back) and he thought it was hilarious!! It’s funny because it’s true!! Does anybody know where that email originated from? I was thinking about making a bunch of copies and leaving them around campus -I go to the University of Houston- but I’m not sure if I can since I didn’t write it. Anyway, the biggest thing that bothers me about immigration is the mexican flag. Don’t complain that you want to be an american while you’re waving a mexican flag in my face!
# April 10th, 2006 at 3:50 pmBella - Feel free to copy and print this. Something of this nature isn’t under any sort of copyright law, I’m sure.
# April 10th, 2006 at 4:30 pmOh yea! and if any Mexicans in Mexico speak out because thier border was crossed incorrectly that must mean that they are biggots, right?
# April 10th, 2006 at 8:44 pmNo matter what, don’t drink the water.
# April 11th, 2006 at 7:32 amJJ, I owe you an apology and a response from the other night, but I can’t for the life of me find the thread we were having our discussion in. Help.
# April 12th, 2006 at 8:05 amAre you two playing nicely? That pulls my heart strings.
# April 12th, 2006 at 2:04 pmBrokeback commentors.
# April 12th, 2006 at 3:29 pmI swear… I’m gonna blacklist that friggin word.
# April 13th, 2006 at 7:33 amWell, I’ll play nicely if I can figger out which thread we were discussing how “liberals hate God” in …
# April 13th, 2006 at 8:44 amThere’s a small city near LA (I forget it’s name), that is a haven for illegals (they are a sanctuary city); the population is 90% hispanic and 75% illegal. The local PD have been informed to stop enforcing traffic laws as it unfairly targets illegals. The city phone system is in spanish you have to “Press 2 for English” AND they’re going to re-name a school after a famous mexican president.
Everywhere below Sacramento is becoming northern mexico, meanwhile in addition to the $750 million we spend housing illegals in jail, we (The State of California) spend annually approx. $10 billion in services to illegals, which translates to approx. $550 in taxes per tax payer a year. Meanwhile 60 hospitals have had to close in Southern California, why you ask? All closings were due to non-repayment of services extended to mexicans.
When is America gonna wake-up to this invasion and take a stand against “the race” and it’s plans for our colonization?
# April 13th, 2006 at 12:58 pmDon’t forget to mention killing police or citzens then running
# April 13th, 2006 at 4:22 pmback to your original country and hide behind extradition laws
or forming drug gangs that clog the DOC. Also they are not
the best workers like they would want you to think they are.
When does mexico take responsibilty for it’s people.Anwser:
It dosnt . What do they do? Walk out of class and protest,
More than half of them walk out of class anyway and never come
back.Law or no law
Any questions? go to CNN.com and read about the feel good
# April 13th, 2006 at 4:41 pmimmigrant, story is on right now.
WHAT!!! Is CNN actually good for something! That sure is news to me!
# April 13th, 2006 at 4:46 pmYa know. People for years have been trying to find a place to dispose of the nuclear waste from reactors and nuclear naval vessels. Why not put it along border with Mexico. There are probably some environmental factors that I do not know about to keep this from happening. But think about it, if it were to be implemented, if they were to cross the border and get in the country they will be easy to find because they will glow in the dark.
Just a thought.
# April 13th, 2006 at 6:42 pma friend of ours deployed overseas sent this to our inbox today, i just had to share
Illegal
Immigrants
Poem
I cross ocean,
poor and broke,
Take bus,
see employment folk.
Nice man treat me
good in there,
Say I need to
see welfare.
Welfare say,
“You come no more,
We send cash
right to your door.”
Welfare checks,
they make you wealthy,
Medicaid it keep
you healthy!
By and by,
I got plenty money,
Thanks to you,
American dummy.
Write to friends
in motherland,
Tell them ‘come
fast as you can.’
They come in turbans
and Ford trucks,
I buy big house
with welfare bucks
They come here,
we live together,
More welfare checks,
it gets better!
Fourteen families,
they moving in,
But neighbor’s patience
wearing thin.
Finally, white guy
moves away,
Now I buy his house,
and then I say,
“Find more aliens
for house to rent.”
And in the yard
I put a tent.
Send for family
they just trash,
But they, too,
draw the welfare cash!
Everything is
very good,
And soon we
own the neighborhood.
We have hobby
it’s called breeding,
Welfare pay
for baby feeding.
Kids need dentist?
Wife need pills?
We get free!
We got no bills!
American crazy!
He pay all year,
To keep welfare
running here.
We think America
darn good place!
Too darn good for
the white man race.
If they no like us,
# April 14th, 2006 at 3:08 amthey can scram,
Got lots of room in
Pakistan .
HAHAHAHA, thats awesome!
# April 14th, 2006 at 6:22 amThe new Glenn Beck show is on CNN. Weird that CNN would let a conservative radio host have a show on their all communism, all day, network. May 7 is the first day it airs I believe. Gunna be good stuff.
# April 14th, 2006 at 7:12 amHaha. Yes… this was an instant classic. Too bad you missed when I posted it back in August!
# April 14th, 2006 at 7:56 amWhile my comment is still very good for the poem, I was actually referring to the comment from IH Red about putting the nuclear waste along the border. Still really like that poem though!
# April 14th, 2006 at 10:08 am
geez am i a day late and a dollar short! preston just sent that over to us a few days ago ..oh well i like it anyway
# April 14th, 2006 at 10:58 amWell, speaking that it was in august that that was posted, Id say thats a little bit more than a day!
# April 14th, 2006 at 7:00 pmMost of the Mexican’s that i have met are nice and respectfull ,but America can NOT let this invasion go on or this country is in big trouble in a few years. Europe is starting to catch hell and the liberals are wanting to hand over the keys. The people that will suffer the most will be the Negro’s and they will vote democrap. It’s a sad thing.
# April 14th, 2006 at 7:46 pmDamn Demorats!
# April 14th, 2006 at 8:48 pmGive the american voter a chance to opt out of free medical
# April 15th, 2006 at 5:27 pmcare for aliens and take that free medical for themself and see
what happens
Most of them are dumb as a rock. They play by the same rules
# April 15th, 2006 at 6:51 pmas the mexican village they ran from. This is the USA we are
accountable to state and federal law. This week in colorado
a ford SUV with 5 migrant workers was struck by a freight
train 4 were killed. The driver was 15yrs old no drivers permit,
it happened on a very open part of the state.Do we even know
who they are? lets just pretend they here to do good. No doubt
they will sue the railroad and damage on engineers safety record.
The same fool that pays taxes the run clinics to help them:!:
This is America get out and stay out.
# April 15th, 2006 at 6:56 pmAmen to that Jimmy. Tancredo for President 2008! You GOPers out there in Blogland better not vote for that numbskull McCain or you will see this skinny white guy violently turn green and rip out of his clothes into a full on “HULK-Attack.”
# April 15th, 2006 at 8:39 pmJimmy, I’m gonna say it again: if companies like Walmart weren’t giving illegals jobs, they wouldn’t be here. In this case it is much easier to focus on the supply side of the equation.
Please. It’s been tried, and they called it the Berlin Wall. If the entire Soviet government juggernaut couldn’t close off part of a city effectively what makes you think we can just shut our border. Not to mention the costs
While it may be your idea of a good time to round up and expulse as many illegals immigrants as possible, it won’t make a damn bit of difference. “Kick them out and close the border”?
Start holding the big American companies which are doing our country the gigantic disservice of hiring illegals accountable (hit them where it hurts, in the wallet, with some hefty fines) for their employment practices, and then maybe be you beloved “Mexicans” will stop coming.

# April 17th, 2006 at 6:49 amWe should hold american employers liable for hire of mexicans
let them pay for medical services so i agree with you. But this is
America we have every right to expell whoever we want whenever
we want. What held true in the 1900’s dosnt work the same way
in the 00’s. This will add up to a much bigger problem if america
continues to premit this trend. 11-12 million are here nobody
really who they are why there on the run. It would be great if
we say there here to make money to send back to mexico but
we cannot. In a Post 911 america the goodwill is gone. I may
be the badguy but so what,, go ahead and call me names. My
choices won’t make me a hero,,what they will do is prevent
bigger problems in the next 10-20 years
# April 17th, 2006 at 10:39 amI never said you didn’t have the right to expel illegals, etc, of course you can. But i’m saying that it’s not a real solution to the problem. Instead of playing a gigantic game of hide-and-seek with the illegals, we should eliminate their incentive to come here in the first place. Who knows, maybe if all these ambitious, self-improving people stayed in their countries, they might become more appealing places to live.
# April 17th, 2006 at 3:10 pmi know that 90 someodd percent of those who come over illegally are mexican but lets not confuse ‘illegals’ with all mexicans. there are tons of folks that come over via the mexico boarder (and canada as well but not to nearly the same extent) that are not mexican.
that aside, i still say
1. a high powered electric fence backed up by marine snipers would work better than a wall (not to mention probably be cheaper, AND with the added incentive of lots of free marine target practice).
2. i also agree with making the employers pay, but i would just yank their buisness license for say, the second offense. they would make dam* sure they knew who they were hiring then.
3. in addition, prohibit public services for illegals. and no more of this ‘anchor baby’ crapola. sorry people, but if you come here ILLEGALY that means your kiddies born here are also here ILLEGALY. Hence, YOU. GET. NOTHING.
well, except for the one way ticket back to wherever you came from.
i dont CARE if the mexican economy is so corrupt there is no middle class. have a riot or something and kick out your el presidente, whatever, its not our problem, its YOURS. We Americans ARE NOT responsible for feeding, clothing, medicating, and educating the entire freakin planet. This is OUR country, and if you wanna come in you’ll do it OUR WAY.
# April 17th, 2006 at 4:51 pmAs long as Mexico’s gov’t stays as corrupt as it is now…. Mexicans will always try to come to America… and W…. the only way to make this country “less appealing” to illegal immigrants, is to start shooting them on site…. or to make our country as crappy as theirs.
I vote to shoot on site.
# April 17th, 2006 at 4:58 pmliz, two words, drone guns
# April 17th, 2006 at 5:32 pmDate for Mexico’s economic miracle Jan.14, 4046
Until that time we unwillingly inport poor angry
mexicans that create new getto’s all over the US
By that time they refuse to leave and incite race
riots claiming that most of southwest US was mexico’s
in the first place. Taking half measures results in postponing
real progress. AZ. TEX. CALIF. ALL SUFFER TO MUCH
New Mexico is a burntout drug slum. Colorado is much
the same but were to PC to do anything about it. Meanwhile
babies are born legit US citzens and it starts all over:!:
# April 17th, 2006 at 6:46 pmP.S. more power to liz and chad
# April 17th, 2006 at 6:50 pmNote to marine snipers the fat ones move slower:wink:
# April 17th, 2006 at 7:22 pmDo you find the younger ones harder to kill? Oh yes, they run much faster and sometimes hide behind things.
# April 18th, 2006 at 3:21 amnow, for the illegals already here:
lots of folks say its impractical to ’round ‘em up and toss ‘em out’. i say it IS practical, you just cant do it all in one day. (but first build my electric fence to stop the flow)
1. This is your 30 day eviction notice. Everyone here without paperwork is being ordered to voluntarily leave. Federally funded bus service will be available for those who wish to leave during that 30 day period only. Should they stay beyond that and we catch you (which we WILL), the adults will be moved around the country (or the state, based on need) to perform public services for a period of 3 years to work off a $5000 fine for staying here after we told you to leave, and to work off the cost of sending them back to mexico or wherever they came from. The children will be sent back to relatives or, if none are available, put into foster care until age 18 at which point they will be then sent back to wherever they came from.
Best Regards, Uncle Sam.
There will also be an Option B for the above plan. Those wishing to enter the military service for 6 years may earn citizenship after completing their 6 year term, provided they serve honerably; and attend and pass basic training as any other soldier would. However, their families still cannot stay here during that time. Once the term is over, the service member would now be legalized and his family could come back to the states on a temporary residency stay while their green card is in process.
2. All those recieving public benefits, be it public schooling, welfare, whatever, have 30 days to submit a birth certificate and social security card (both of which must be validated) to continue recieving services. After the 30 day period benefits will stop until the documentation has been submitted and approved as valid.
3. If an illegal shows up at an Emergancy room, they will be treated. However, they are now considered ‘found’ after the 30 day eviction notice above and the process in #1 above will be carried out.
Give this plan 18 months or so and i believe, 75% of the 11-12 MILLION here illegaly will be gone. and the flow in vertually wiped out. After 3 years that number should be around 90%
but hey what to i know, i’m just Joe Average Citizen.

# April 18th, 2006 at 4:05 amDear Liz, It’s the average citizens who will be victims
of racial harrasment random crime pay taxes to fund
federal programs which make this stuff possible.
# April 18th, 2006 at 8:36 amwell jimmy, the way i figure, buses are heckuva lot cheaper than feeding, clothing, medicating and educating millions upon millions of illegals. once the public services are cut off there will be a HUGE amount of extra $. and for a couple of years that extra $ would be used to toss ‘em out on thier butts. once 90%+ are gone, its pretty much a mute point and the funds would go where they should have in the first place. public services for our low income LEGAL citizens.
sure some crazy folks would call this racist but its *NOT* for the reason being, we’re not kicking out only mexicans. we’re kicking out anybody here illegaly. period. REGARDLESS of what they look like. i dont care if they’re giant purple people eaters. they got no papers, they go BUH-BYE. and i got a funny feeling alot of the crime in the ‘boarder’ states will drop drastically. just a hunch though.
# April 18th, 2006 at 9:11 amDear Liz, I worked with em before. They are very average workers
only latter do you find out they are big racists. The women
are even more lazy than the guys. Here’s what happens
they stay long enough to earn money to buy the clothes
they want. Soon as thats done they quit get pregant and you
know the ending to this story. In between all this gang kids
magically appear fill in the empty spaces and soon quit
because there is more money selling dope. God Bless

# April 21st, 2006 at 12:55 amYer full of crap, Mike. We took the land and made it better than anything you guys could produce.
Mexico is just a corrupted, commie country, that breeds nothing but slums, prostitution, drugs, and any type of authority there is powered by greed, corruption and scandal.
We took the land and made it something decent. You guys coulden’t handle that task. Now yer all sick of your crappy government, your crappy economy, and your crappy everything else, so you’re desperate to take all the land that is now developed and flourishing, and give it to the irresponsible mexican government, only so it can be raped like everything else they’re responsible for.

hypothetically, just for grins and giggles, lets say we were to give back the land, the mexicans would STILL whine and complain because now it would belong to the mexican govt and therefore they wouldnt be able to mooch off the US taxpayers free public services. so you see, they want it BOTH ways. they want to ‘take back’ ‘their’ land AND get all our services. HA! Greedy much?

Whatever, you be in the wrong place if you want political correctness my friend. This is a “No PC” zone. If a dude wanta to call El Illego “Taco Bell” then let em. He is just letting off some steam. You see, many good hard-workin Americans are angry right now in regards to the illegal alien situation in this country. People are fed up with spending 68 Billion a year on eduation and healthcare for illegals. We are tired of people wanting to be Americans just for a paycheck with no interest in assimilation. I want em all gone. Each and every last one of em. IF a head of lettuce and a bag of oranges skyrocket in price I will just cry myself to sleep at night and eat red meat instead of salads. Of wait: I dont eat salads.

# April 23rd, 2006 at 7:35 amJimmy and Whatever do have something in common: They both use multiple comments to make their point instead of putting it all in one. I guess they like to spread it around for effect OR they get too antsy with the submit button before they have finished their thoughts.
Jimmy did make a great point, though. This issue must be dealt with now or we risk letting the problem get too big to deal with. There are already 12 million criminals in this country now. What happens in 10 years when there are 40 million? We need to secure our borders now. Deal with El Illego or as Jimmy likes to refer to them as “Taco Bell” after the border is sealed.
Side Note: Remember the old Taco Bell slogan, “Run For The Border”? Maybe Taco Bell was started by an illegal? All I know is that I was on a National Guard drill when I was a teenager, ate some Taco Hell, and then made a trip to the ER with food poisoning. Bastardos!
# April 23rd, 2006 at 7:47 amNote to JJ: I was going to be alot more nasty refering to
mexicans, but it’s your lucky day therefore they are
“Taco Bell” and the evil they inflict are hereby refered to

And JJ, there’s a difference between being non-PC and being intelligent. Jimmy is just being racist and stupid, not an outspoken intellecutal or something. He has the right to say what he pleases, I just wish he had the judgment not to sometimes.
I have already suggested what I think would be a highly effective solution to the illegal immigration problem (stop US companies from providing them with jobs), and I don’t see why more border control or mass-expulsions are necessary. And by all means stop providing health care and education, i dont know why we do that in the first place.

# April 23rd, 2006 at 11:41 amWhatever, you bring up a point that many Conservatives have been sounding off about: Stop employing these folks and fine the companies that do. I have heard many a story about certain industries “aaachhhheee-meatpackingindustry-eewwwww” (inconspicuous sneeze). These big industries rail their congressman and end up getting a free pass from the INS. Our government is part of this problem… they are not doing their freaking job and upholding the letter of the law.
Dangit, I sound like one of them crazy far-right anti-government kooks. Thousand pardons. I love the government… especially when it is small and effective.
# April 23rd, 2006 at 12:01 pmMTV would be a good place for you willie
# April 23rd, 2006 at 12:01 pmMTV sucks.
# April 23rd, 2006 at 1:05 pmJJ, I think that point is extremely important, and gives rise to the common liberal argument that our economy requires the cheap labor supplied by illegal immigrants. Frankly, i don’t know whether that argument holds water, and neither does anybody else because in order to find out, we’d have to “kick out Taco Bell”, as you all suggest.
Still, with China and all those other countries pumping out all kinds of goods ultra cheap and efficiently, I think the argument that US industry needs someone to provide cheap labor at least partly holds. (keep in mind that there is no minimum wage for illegals, and that $5.15 or whatever it is in your state is way more than the average Chinese factory worker makes.)
The problem is that nobody’s really sure what the effect of expulsing (or trying to expulse) millions of illegals would really be.
Sure there are problems with having illegals here, but the problems of not having them here, or trying to get them out, might be even greater.

# April 23rd, 2006 at 1:23 pmDont blame the chinese either
# April 23rd, 2006 at 1:25 pmI just think that is entirely speculation. We started out doing our own work, when it needed to be done. We can continue doing so. Only we would be paying taxes, and receiving the benefits that we earned from OUR work, and not sapping the taxpayers.
It’s easy for alot of folks to say “Oh, but who’s gonna do all the work that the mexicans are doing???”
We’ve been doing it since day one…. we can do it some more.
# April 23rd, 2006 at 1:37 pmThink outside the bun
# April 23rd, 2006 at 1:41 pmIf they are here agianst the letter of the law, trap-em, kill-em, or deport-em. When we were farmin we had to put up with too many regs that were enforced to the letter. And now the same brilliants government burecrats that made up those regs are trying to let people that broke worse laws than we ever did get away with it. Makes me sick.

# April 23rd, 2006 at 1:57 pmin sunny ol’ mexico
It is absolutely speculatory. So is your suggestion. Do you think it’s likely that the kind of mass expulsion and border closings you suggest will happen? Probably not right? Why? Well, once again I’m willing to speculate that among other things
1) Politicians, business owners and other wealthy and influential persons oppose such action because they believe it to be politically/socially/economically RISKY. It would certainly anger the very large legal Hispanic community who (with some reason) see it as a racially based action. It is also likely that there would be tremendously adverse effects on the economy. The agricultural and manufcaturing businesses currently based in the US would likely skip town and export from some where cheaper.
2) The resources, coordination, manpower, etc. required to complete such an expulsion are massive, much more massive than the costs of having illegal immigrants here (too bad nobody has any idea how much your plan would cost)
3)There are actually that many Americans out of work because of illegal immigrants, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, US unemployment was 4.7% in March 2006, an extremely favorable rate
Bottom line is, the illegal immigrants aren’t taking advantage of us, we’re allowing them to be here because, for a variety of reason all of which are not immediately apparent, it is beneficial to us (or those of us that make the decisions) for them to be here.
That, in a nutshell, is the argument that many people make (I’m sorry if i didn’t do it justice). I don’t know whether I agree, because the situation is so complicated, I don’t really know what to think.
# April 23rd, 2006 at 2:08 pmedit: “There aren’t actually that many Americans out of work”
# April 23rd, 2006 at 2:09 pmRound and round and round we go
# April 23rd, 2006 at 2:23 pmIm get a bit uneasy when we talk of a mass exodus of illegals back to Ma-hee-co (remember the X is silent). Deporting 12 million people is an undertaking that would cost us hard working Americans big freaking bucks. That’s why I suggest we forge ahead on the Star Trek technology of “Teleportation.” We could just build a low-cost, portable, tranporter device that could be sent from town to town beaming Jose and Maria back to their village in Ole’ Ma-hee-co.
It would be great: one minute they’re pickin apples in Washington State and the next they are at their second cousin’s girlfriend’s sister’s 16th birthday fiesta in Mexico City. But until this technology is complete I guess we could stick to the whole repremanding the businesses who employ them, which would in turn make it difficult to find jobs here, sending them packin back to ole’ Ma-hee-co on their own, not costing the average taxpayer much at all. Not as cool as the teleporter idea but effective nonetheless.

# April 24th, 2006 at 5:58 amI can’t believe that you think that illegals are NOT taking advantage of us. That is such BS. Of course they are. Thats why they come in herds! Cos they can get a great living for free. Free to them… not to us.
This is too obvious.
# April 24th, 2006 at 6:58 amJimmy,
Try to keep it topical.
I said I don’t know what to do because it’s the truth. Your problem is that you think you DO know all the answers. What’s that quote from the Bible you guys use all the time? Oh yeah:
“Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools.”
Romans 1:18
Illegal Immigration wouldn’t be a persistent issue like it is if the solution was as obvious as you think. Stop trying to come up with some kind of quick-fix to a problem that requires a lot of thought, effort, money, etc. When you’re willing to admit that the issue is even worth discussing, we can talk some more.
And I said there was no obvious solution, not that there was no problem. Big difference.
Chad,
If anything, this country is being backstabbed, not invaded. I see the millions of illegal immigrants invading as a RESULT of a lack of accountability and consequences for the companies that employ them, rather than the problem itself.
Take for example an American tomato farmer who employs 30 illegal immigrants (rather than legals) to work on his farm. Which do you think would be an easier solution to the problem:
1) Punish the one farmer for doing a disservice to his country and hiring illegal immigrants.
2) Trying to round up and ship out 30 illegal immigrants and making sure they dont come back.
And even if you did round up all his workers and deport them, their friends from next door would be back next week ready to work. But if you fined or otherwise punished that asshole farmer, I bet he’d think twice before employing more illegals. Right?
The problem with my solution is that it involves getting rich and powerful people to own up to their crimes and accept the consequences, which is never easy. (Take note Jimmy! I’m willing to admit that my ideas arent a perfect one-stop solution!)
# April 24th, 2006 at 9:31 amI completely agree with you that business owners need to be held accountable as well. I just also think, that we need to make it alot harder for illegals to enter the country. They need to be afraid… and WANT to do it legally.
But it is easier to punish the business owner, than round up a bajillion illegals.
Thats why we need an open season on illegals.
# April 24th, 2006 at 10:33 amQ: Why do the border guards call illegals “tonks”?
# April 24th, 2006 at 1:04 pmA: Because of the sound it makes when you hit them on the head with a Maglite.
As a teacher:shock:, I think one of the biggest concerns we should heed is the fact that if we take in illiegal immigrants, many of them severely uneducated, our country is going to be full of stupid people. We are slowly sliding down the intellectual ladder because the standards are constantly being lowered and lowered (not just in school), and that is mostly due to language learners, many being Hispanic. Our country is getting filled up with less intelligent people and that makes us an easy target. Granted we have one of the best military, but many times winning and manipulation comes from being an intellect. Also, what is really the big deal about learning English? English is the language of America, if you want to be an US citizen learn the language!
# April 26th, 2006 at 12:22 pmWell said, Ive been arguing that last part for a very long time.
# April 26th, 2006 at 3:16 pmAll I can say to this is: Im so sad. Ive read all your comments and I guess you guys really dont like us. Though I do agree with some of you they should enforce the border. To you IH Red how mean can you be. I am Mexican but I was born here even though my parents came here illegally. My dad recently got his green card, that made us sooo happy. My mom though has been here for nearly 13 years and my bro for 10 and me well all my life which have been 16 great years. You guys have reason’s to be mad at us you guys pay taxes and all the other things that many of the “immigrants” use. I use the word immigrants to show that not all of us are hispanic but most of us are. My parents have the most common job that most mexican’s get a gardener and a house cleaner. from time to time my dad even complain about some of the people he gets to help him “saying that: they want to be paid at least 10 dollars an hour when they dont even want to work that hard” I know im only 15 and it sounds like im preaching to you all grown up’s, but please dont be mad because ever since this whole immigration debate started there hasnt been a moment that I worry about my family and the rest of my friends and their family’s. Now many of us have been sent back since in the few recent day the “migra” as we call it have come and hit where most hispanics go. My mom has always been scared of them because she always has the feeling that in any moment they will get her no matter how many years she’s been here they will take her away then what will happen to us . Another good point that you people make are the kids that walked out of school, it was okay they were fighting for something they believed in, but at the same time stupid if they really wanted to make a difference they should make it in smarter ways. I was actually laughing at this because when the reporters asked them various questions on the government and what the law was actually about many of them didn’t even know what to say. You all have the right to your opinion but please think about it carefully about who you would be sending back. Maybe some of you have Hispanic friends and although not all o
