World Trade Center Movie
05.23.06I saw this, and at first I thought it was about Flight 93, which I have yet to see. But it’s about the WTC, and yes… it did make my eyes mist.
The interesting thing is that it has Nick Cage in it. It’s kinda weird. I like him as an actor… but I can’t really think of a movie he’s in that I really like. He mostly plays stupid movies. We’ll see how this one goes, but I’m sure it’s gonna be rough. Especially since the memory of 9-11 is still too fresh.

I have heard some shady things about this film. I will read up and comment as soon as I can.

# May 25th, 2006 at 10:19 amBeware of anything from Oliver Stone. It might be good, but I’m bettin’ there is some messaging that the right end of the political spectrum will not take kindly to in the film.

# May 25th, 2006 at 4:24 pmI agree that it does seem like this movie is coming out a little close to the actual event. We’ve always seen the more drastic films placed well after their actual occurence. But things are differnt. Most of the extreme tragedies that have been made into film, took place when the filming industry as either null…or barely starting up.
I think that opens up a debate on whether this move could be deemed “insensitive” or not. But had we been able to make WWII movies and Vietnam Movies and any other event similar in effect, would they have been made so soon after? Or is the coming out of a movie so shortly after a sign of where our cultures are going? Are we becoming less sensitive to death? Are we not mourning as long as we used to? As we should? Death is something that should not be so much feared as respected.
In my opinion this movie can go two ways:
1) It can become an immortalization. The first of many to come. Displaying the emotions felt on that day. Films have become another way of documenting our history…as volatile as they are in fact.
2) The producer, director, or whoever else is in charge can put some personal political or emotional spin on the movie. The can demonize Americans…or just one aspect of America.
The main line here being this: It’s a tender subject. Watch where you tread.
# May 26th, 2006 at 3:50 amI just saw a commercial for this movie. I guess Paramount doesn’t care about the fact that people are still devastated about what happened on 9/11. I saw one of the planes rip through the sky and the towers fall. My best friend was murdered and I knew many people who were killed. I walked through manhattan that day and the days following looking for my friend who I would never see again. The images will never leave my head and they still tear me apart and drive me to tears. I not only have no desire to watch this movie but I’m downright pissed off that I have to be subjected to commercials for it. I hope Mr. Stone never knows the pain people feel because of his movie. I hope Paramount goes bankrupt and I hope that all the hate mongering, violent Muslum fanatics burn in hell where they belong.
