Micro Compact Spinger 45

06.10.06

Micro Compact 1911My new carry peice. It is a dream come true for me. Jarrid and I met up with JJ and his little man at the Spokane Gun Show and we had a good time. I walked by a table with two 10 year old lookin kids, and this piece caught my eye. So I waited till their grandpa showed up and I haggled with him a abit. You might remember back sometime ago, that this bad boy made it to my weapons wishlist. And now this wish came true!

Used and a private transaction. Only $400 bucks. This was an offer I coulden’t refuse. It holds 7 with one in the chamber. And I glanced over the hi-cap mag that held 15, but it stuck out the bottom a good distance. Those kinda hi-cap mags aren’t really to be taken seriously. It’s more for the claim to own one. I didn’t buy it, but someday I might. Also this thing came with Colt brand grips on it. So I’m lookin around at fancy wood grips for it. I met a guy named Chad Ruseler who etches custom designs into grips and stocks. I might have him make me up something. But I also found this guy. Some very fancy work. Kinda spendy though. Or I could just go with Frank Castle grips!

Jarrid got himself a KelTec P40. A nice compact .40 caliber carry peice. So we headed to the pistol range I built in my folks backyard, and we got a feel for our new toys. We only shot at the swinging metal targets. Tomorrow we want to head back with paper targets and get ideas on our grouping. I’ll try and get some pics of the groups.

Nice! Frank Castle is the way to go if your pockets can stretch that far. 8 rounds of .45 is a nice CCW. I’m suprised you didn’t go with the compact XD.

I have both a P11 and P40; Jarrid don’t use 180gr. rounds, stay clear of Federal Hydrashocks (I love ‘em but the P40 doesn’t) try GoldDot’s or Winchester Rangers. You’ll find a Handall Jr. helps control the P40 along with switching the factory recoil springs with Wolff 20 or 22 lb. replacements.

    Here’s my well-worn P11…

Oh yeah, use a FIRM modern isosceles… it’ll help your grouping.

Here’s my grouping pics! I love this piece. The trigger is excellent.

Stevil - I have been practicing up on my isosceles. I’ve never really used it before, and I feel very comfortable with it. I can tell the difference.

Can you explain the difference of ‘modified’ isosceles?

And I was a big fan of the XD’s when they came out. Mainly because a new XD is half the cost of a new 1911. Fortunately for me I was able to find a used 1911 for the same cost as a new XD. An offer I coulden’t refuse.

The modified isosceles has a narrower stance (inline with your shoulders) and has the strong/gun leg slightly back of the other, knees a tad bent, lean forward slightly. The modern isoceles has a wider stance more leg bend and a parallel square-on presentation… the P-40 benefits from this approach if your are of a lighter frame, us big fellas’ can use the modified, that’s prety much what I use for everything these days ‘cept plinkin one-handed with a .22, then I belt-buckle it.

Compact 1911 look so neat, that’s a great 15 yard group, I have a hankerin’ for a a full-size .45 XD myself, although I can’t stop my desire for a Steyr M-A1 in 9mm… yeah I know 9mm is gay but it sure is easy to shoot  and I love my LR Federal 135 gr. Hydra shocks, boy those suckers expand!

 yeah the doll shots are kinda sick. might as well not disappoint. Who are the “they”? The voices in your head? I saw a bumber sticker once that said, “I do what the voices in my head tell me to.” next to “Honk if you’ve never seen an Uzi fired from a car window.”

    I’m looking to buy me a .40. Dad just baught him a P95 9mm.

THanks for the heads up Stevil. I just ordered a new recoil spring for it. I’ll see how she does!

For some nice grips that arn’t wood but are nice and have slim models for carry check out http://www.vzgrips.com or for a good pair of coarse grips which has a good grip even with sweaty hands take those colt grips and coat them with a thin spread of epoxy, then spreading a layer of sharp 80 grit abrasive on top. these arn’t to good for carrying they start to scratch.
