Field Dressing A Grouse
09.02.07Spent the morning out in the woods with Jonas. We scouted for Elk for the upcoming season. We managed to harvest some forest grouse. Last fall I had promised Guav some video of the actual process, but I didn’t have my old camera, now that I shoot a Nikon D50.
So here’s a photoset on how to field dress a grouse. Followed up some a couple recipes!
UPDATE ยป We Got A Video!
Thanks JJ!

# September 10th, 2007 at 9:05 pmWould it work on a thawed chicken? it would be a unique party trick.
# September 12th, 2007 at 9:08 amI doubt it would work on a thawed chicken for several reasons. one being that it is already gutted, but more importantly because it isn’t still warm and tender.
# September 12th, 2007 at 1:43 pmI’m going to try it on a hummingbird.
# September 12th, 2007 at 4:54 pmGuav - you ain’t gotta lie to kick it here at PTA. We all know that you would cry yourself to sleep for months, while shaving your head and donning sackcloth and ashes for your crime against a hummingbird, which we all know are equal to mankind.
# September 12th, 2007 at 11:12 pmOf course I’m lying. I still feel bad about making a spear from a broomstick and a pocketknife and stabbing fish in the creek when I was 12. It’s not like I was gonna eat ‘em.
# September 13th, 2007 at 1:31 pmYou feel bad about stabbing fish? Dang. Even Jesus put the smack down on the fish.
# September 13th, 2007 at 2:43 pmHow about some more caption contests…
# September 13th, 2007 at 5:19 pmwell, yer the master at captions… but don’t we need an image for a caption contest?
# September 13th, 2007 at 6:05 pmYeah, but he fed like a zillion dudes with just one of them. I just killed ‘em for fun.
# September 13th, 2007 at 10:16 pmPut up a picture and we’ll go to town on it. It should be a regular feature.
# September 14th, 2007 at 12:45 pmHey guys… since you brought it up… Bible Study time!
There is an amazing underground symbolic message in what Jesus does with the feeding of the “zillions of dudes”. Now if we look at both times this happens (Matthew 14:13-21 and Matthew 15:32-38) we see that Jesus had compassion on the multitudes and fed them with bread and fish… but lets look at it deeper.
In the first instance, Jesus was in a predominantly Jewish area and the multitudes that surrounded him were Jews. This feeding has everything to do with the spiritual feeding of the Jewish people… the firstborn of God’s children… the children of the covenant. When they (NT Jews) were hungry on that first day of ministry and could not feed themselves, God fed them miraculously. In the wilderness, the OT Jews cried out for food because they could not get it themselves and God gave them bread and quail to eat. The NT disciples wanted Jesus to send them away to go into other villages to get food. The OT Jews wanted to return to Egypt to eat from the “flesh pots” but God interacted with them to feed them not only on a physical level but also spiritually, because that is the hunger man truly has. In the NT see what He feeds them… 5 loaves and 2 fishes… this totally reminds me at least of the 10 commandments (2 tablets with 5 laws each). God gave the Jews his standards and ordinances in order to bless them with His holiness. This is the Jews “food”. Further confirmation is in the leftovers of the NT feast… or the fruit of the ministry… 12 baskets of bread. 12 tribes… quite Jewish.
The next feeding of the “dudes” happened in a wilderness that was Gentile territory. The crowds that surrounded Jesus were Gentiles predominantly. The Jews despised the Gentiles, which gives some explanation why the disciples did not think that Jesus would do the same miracle to feed the “zillions” like he did for the Jewish crowd. Plus, he did it on the third day which means for 3 unconfortable days, the crowd was left to fend for itself, which probably solidified the disciples resolve that Jesus was not going to bless them the same way as the other group… plus… they are Gentiles (did I mention that they were Gentiles
?) Who are we but Gentiles? We for thousands of years were seperated from God because of our sin and the only way to Him was through the Jews. But what does Jesus do… on the third day Jesus gives them food to eat from seven loaves of bread. What did Jesus do for us? On the third day He rose again and provided His body as the Bread of Life (John 6:35) In Revelations, Jesus makes mention of the fact that there are seven spirits of the church… which I believe equate to the seven loaves of bread that turn into the seven churches (seven baskets left over).
This Bible we read is truly amazing… it is almost like God wrote it.
