Huckabee On Illegal Alien Children
01.08.08Mike Huckabee wants to amend the Constitution to prevent children born in the U.S. to illegal aliens from automatically becoming American citizens, according to his top immigration surrogate — a radical step no other major presidential candidate has embraced. Full Story »
I don’t care what you guys say. Huckabee is the man.
update » i guess it wasn’t official. Chuck Norris should round house kick him in the face.

Unfortunately, something like that is probably necessary. It would most certainly never see the light of day, however.
I think we can be pretty sure that the 14th Amendment never envisioned people entering this country illegally for the sole purpose of having citizen children that would allow them to get government money.
I would support something with wording that granted citizenship to children with at least one parent who is a citizen, or is on the path to becoming a citizen.
While we welcome immigrants, we are a sovereign nation that has every right to control our borders. That’s not racist, it’s common sense. Becoming an American is not a right, no matter how much the left wants to make it one.
Now, on the subject of a sovereign nation, how many people who opposed our invading the sovereign nation of Iraq support the illegal invasion of the United States?
# January 8th, 2008 at 10:38 pmA very bold and laudable step, it doesn’t make sense to allow anchor babies in the face of la invasión I like more and more what I hear coming from the Huckabeee camp, pity he’s unelectable.
# January 9th, 2008 at 4:18 amI am not sure how it works in the US but here, down under, if one person becomes a citizen its open slather for their entire family to “unite” here (beware) the second generation of muslims (born in Australia) show no sign of becoming Australians and openly will tell you as much. I’m not talking religion, I’m saying they call themselves lebanese or arabs etc but were born here. God help us.
# January 9th, 2008 at 5:03 am::raises hand::
# January 9th, 2008 at 12:10 pmOh crap, I misread the question. What I mean to say is that I oppose both invasions. I lose at teh internets.
# January 9th, 2008 at 12:12 pmSorry to do this… it really sucks, but the man just took it back:
# January 9th, 2008 at 1:15 pmDOH! thanks for the update.
# January 9th, 2008 at 1:20 pmHe didn’t take it back, he just never said it in the first place. The Washington Times quoted Jim Gilchrist, and didn’t bother to check their facts before going live with a BS story:
(full story here)
Don’t let the MSM pull you their way: they desperately want Huck to get the nomination, because he will get crushed by Obama and that will make for good ratings and high circulation. To that end, they will do everything including publishing unvalidated stories that will make him seem appealing to some of the Republican base. Verify everything, and if it doesn’t check out with the candidate himself it probably isn’t true.
Also interesting to note, that Jim Gilchrist’s endorsement of Huck came by default. Apparently Gilchrist submitted questionnaires to all the candidates, and Huck was the only one who bothered to return it so he got the endorsement. It’s also correct (as Byron York points out in the article) that Gilchrist’s Minuteman Project is NOT the same as the Minuteman Civil Defense Corps, the group that everyone knows about that watches the border(source ). Jiim Gilchrist and Chris Simcox co-founded the group, but there was a falling out and Gilchrist has been persona non grata there since March of last year. Gilchrist got the name and the bank accounts, but the organization and the mission stayed with Simcox under the new name Minuteman Civil Defense Corps, now operated out of Scottsdale AZ. The MCDC has not endorsed anybody yet and certainly wouldn’t like Huckabee’s stance on giving taxpayer dollars to illegal alien kids in the form of scholarships.
Good on Huck for vowing to pardon Ramos and Compean, though. I wish more of the candidates would talk about that.
# January 9th, 2008 at 3:48 pmCorrection - York didn’t talk about the MMP/MCDC split, I got ahead of myself. Nevertheless, the rest of the facts are correct regarding the two Minuteman organizations. You can read about it here and in the third paragraph of their Wikipedia entry, here.
Not to go off on too much of a tangent, but to make it clear Gilchrist is a loony and what remains of his Minuteman Project has engaged in all kinds of behaviors that could be called “questionable” at best (read the Wiki article for more). Gilchrist started out with good intentions but unfortunately his ego flamed him out early on and now he’s nothing but a local rabble-rouser around Orange County. If more people knew the true story behind Gilchrist, his endorsement wouldn’t carry the weight that it does. Behold the power of nuance.
# January 9th, 2008 at 4:09 pmAm I going to get kicked off for this? Ron Paul has said for a long time that he’d push to amend the 14th amendment and end birthright citizenship.
# January 13th, 2008 at 2:06 pmhere goes the broken record: anchor babies wouldn’t be an issue if their parents couldn’t find jobs here.
enforce existing laws on employers of illegal immigrants, and they will leave. no constitutional amendments, no border fences, no bull****.
# January 13th, 2008 at 9:59 pmchick - ron paul is unelectable. so we’re trying to focus on realistic situations.
# January 14th, 2008 at 10:54 amUnderstood but lamented.
# January 15th, 2008 at 3:18 pmhey! i just realized that its you, Mindy. You sneaky snake.
