touche, they were REintroduced. So it went from half a pack of native wolves, to several more. Point being, that we we’re doing good before hand. The deer/elk herds were strong. Hunters and conservationists put forward alot of money to harvest these animals. Now we dont have that option. They’ve cut back on how many deer tags are avaialable, and opened the season on wolves. I would rather shoot a deer and feed my family, than shoot a stupid wolf, and leave it to rot.

I was basing this statement on the fact that all animals have an intrinsic value (man that sounds really hippie)to life. I guess i need to clarify when you said get rid, do you mean out of Idaho or as a species in general?

No Chad, they were not introduced in 1996, they were REintroduced—there is a huge difference. I’m not saying Idaho “needs” them, but you keep making it sound as if it’s unnatural for them to be in Idaho in the first place.

I've decided to research where exactly these photos came from, and discovered they were taken via helicopter by a scientist in the Isle Royale National Park off the coast of Michigan.

So, these are not Idaho wolves. And the title and info has been corrected.

But I want to be clear that I still stand on wolves being removed from Idaho. After all, they were introduced in 1996. Idaho has done very well without them. And I know for a fact the huge support there is in this area as far as removing them.

So let's not fool ourselves into thinking that Idaho needs them to survive.

Hey, my concern is getting them out of Idaho. I really don’t care if they take out the Canadian herds. That’s their problem.

And if the only wolves in the world happen to all live in Idaho, then sure… let’s get rid of the species.

Bears and mountain lions either guard or hide their kills, wolves leave their leftovers so they help the scavengers of the ecosystem survive

the irony of calling wolves a “pestilence” and saying they have “no place in our ecosystem” when I think it’s likely that wolves have been in North America longer than people have.

I do not find it ironic that we have filled the role that the wolves once filled. We as humans are obviously a better and more controllable way to manage deer population.

Wolves kill and leave deer. I should have phrased it as "kill for thrill". Should a hunter ever kill and leave an animal, great trouble would follow after (should they get caught). Hunters take home the meat, and make good use of it.

So, once again, humans are a more responsible and better option to use for managing deer population.

You seem to be the big wolf expert now. /sarcasm What place do they have in our ecosystem? They've been nearly wiped out forever now, and there has been zero impact on the ecosystem.

And my post has not insinuated that wolves are alien. Only that they are currently useless, and more trouble than anything else.

And now you’re accusing wolves of hunting for sport … which of course people never do.

Wolves obviously have a place in our ecosystem—you simply want humans to take over the role that wolves play. Fine, so say that. Don’t pretend wolves are aliens from another planet or a synthetic virus or something haha

I can’t wait for until wolf tags are released. They must have been hungry as moose is almost always a survival food (unless the moose is stranded in deep snow or is sick/injured). Possibly the wolves had run the deer and elk out of the area and/or decimated the herds in this area. Oh well, lets just kill ‘em all!
