Rest In Peace, Charlton Heston

04.06.2008

Charlton Heston was awesome on the screen and off.

LOS ANGELES (AP) - Charlton Heston, who won the 1959 best actor Oscar as the chariot-racing “Ben-Hur” and portrayed Moses, Michelangelo, El Cid and other heroic figures in movie epics of the ’50s and ’60s, has died. He was 84.

The actor died Saturday night at his home in Beverly Hills with his wife Lydia at his side, family spokesman Bill Powers said.

Powers declined to comment on the cause of death or provide further details.

Heston revealed in 2002 that he had symptoms consistent with Alzheimer’s disease, saying, “I must reconcile courage and surrender in equal measure.”

Parking Lot Gun Laws and the Right to Transport Firearms

09.28.2007

here is an interesting (older) article from the NRA-ILA website.

Should people who lawfully possess firearms be able to leave them locked in their motor vehicles, on business property? Common sense would say, “yes.” All 50 states allow the transportation of firearms in motor vehicles for all lawful purposes and 48 states allow the carrying of firearms in vehicles for personal protection, in some manner.1 More than one of every four of America`s 65-80 million gun owners carries a firearm in his or her vehicle for protection.2

The U.S. Constitution and the constitutions of 46 states protect the right to arms and/or self-defense.3 And since 1986, federal law has protected the right to transport firearms in vehicles interstate.4

However, over the last few years disagreements over the right of people to leave firearms locked in their vehicles on business property have arisen. As a result, five state legislatures have passed, and during their current legislative sessions additional states are considering passing, laws to protect that right.5

The issue began in 2002 in Oklahoma, when the Weyerhaeuser corporation fired employees for having guns in personal vehicles on company property. The Oklahoma Legislature responded, unanimously in the House and by a vote of 92-4 in the Senate, by prohibiting “any policy or rule” prohibiting law-abiding people “from transporting and storing firearms in a locked vehicle.”

Idaho NRA License Plates Available for Sale Monday, September 24!

09.21.2007

I’m pretty sure Idaho is the only state to produce license plates with the NRA logo and they become available in a couple days! We were able to preview these plates last year at the Lake Country FNRA 2006 event, where Dwight NRA Field Rep got up and talked about them.

Feel Good Ignorance

08.29.2007

So I opened up a flickr account for the Friends of NRA committee that I’m on. I’m planning on using a WP plugin to display the albums on the committee website. I decided to search flickr for any other Friends of NRA photos out there, and immediately stumbled upon this guy’s emotional reaction to the shootings at Virgina Tech. Once I read his whiny rant, I couldn’t help myself. I had to respond.

You’ll have to start off by viewing his “excellent” photo of him crying, and his big long rant of sheer stupidity. Then check the first comment by lakecountry.friends.of.nra (me). I actually respond first to the ridiculous comment above mine.

Well… my response was enough to make him cry all over again, and post a photo just for me! I’m so proud.

The AHSA - Deceit

09.03.2006

Last year I posted about a wolf in sheeps clothing. The American Hunters and Shooters Association. Basically a group of gun control advocates disquised as a pro-gun, pro-hunting lobby.

Cam Edwards, head news anchor for NRA News has another article posted about these sneaky gun grabbers.

When is an anti-gunner a pro-gun advocate? The obvious answer is never, but that’s too simple a response. The actual answer is “any time a member of the media wants to portray the anti-gunner in a pro-gun light”. Take, for example, a new article in The New Republic entitled “Gun Crazy: The Revolt Against the NRA” by Michael Blanding. Blanding, a freelance writer from Boston, profiles the group calling itself American Hunters and Shooters Association. AHSA bills itself as a “moderate alternative to the NRA”, but in reality it’s an organization founded by leaders in the anti-gun movement who have strong ties to the Brady Campaign. More…

Vicotry in New Orleans

08.21.2006

For those who remember back during Katrina, the City of New Orleans went around confiscating guns from everybody (read: law-abiding citizens who needed means of self defense from roaming thugs). So the NRA took em to court. God bless the NRA.

This week, in a landmark victory for NRA and law-abiding gun owners, Judge Carl J. Barbier of the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Louisiana denied the City of New Orleans’ motion to dismiss NRA’s lawsuit against the city. Further, Judge Barbier held that the Second Amendment does apply to law-abiding residents in the State of Louisiana and the City of New Orleans. Incredibly, the City of New Orleans persisted in desperately clinging to its anti-gun agenda by contemptuously arguing just the opposite–that the Second Amendment does not apply to residents in the State of Louisiana and the City of New Orleans.

NRA first filed suit after Hurricane Katrina, when firearms were confiscated from law-abiding New Orleans residents. Former New Orleans Police Chief Eddie Compass issued orders to confiscate firearms from all citizens. With that one order, the means of self-protection that innocent victims had during a time of widespread civil disorder was stripped away.

NRA filed suit in federal court and won a preliminary injunction ending these illegal gun confiscations. After the City of New Orleans failed to comply with the court’s ruling and falsely claimed that the gun confiscations never occurred, NRA filed a motion for contempt that included an order directing all seized firearms be returned to their rightful owners.

After strenuously denying the illegal confiscations for months, on March 15, 2006, Mayor Nagin and the New Orleans Police Department (NOPD) finally conceded in federal court that the seized firearms were stored in two trailers. The city then agreed in court to a process by which law-abiding citizens would be able to file a claim to receive their confiscated firearms. However, few firearms were returned because the NOPD never notified gun owners how to claim their guns, and turned many away citing impossible standards for proof of ownership.

Today’s ruling sets the stage for a continued legal fight in which NRA will be forced to expend additional resources to fight back the anti-gunner’s blatant and shameful attempts to ignore the Second Amendment. The case will now move to discovery and pre-trial preparation.

Another article: Statement from Chris Cox.

I don’t care what other people say. The NRA does more for gun rights than anyone else. You can take that to the bank.

Recent NRA News

Just to keep you guys updated on some interesting news that was on the NRA-ILA webpage.

06.03.2006 SOLDIER FILES LAWSUIT AGAINST MICHAEL MOORE FOR UNAUTHORIZED AND FALSE PORTRAYAL IN “DOCUMENTARY”

We’ve come to expect many things from Michael Moore, the deliriously anti-gun millionaire posing as populist who brought us such absurd and irresponsible works as “Bowling for Columbine,” “Stupid White Men,” “Dude, Where’s My Country?” and “Fahrenheit 9/11.” We’ve come to expect patronizing arrogance, blatant anti-Americanism, and flagrant lies.

Well, now he’s being called to account by Peter Damon, a double-amputee Iraq war veteran, who’s suing the rotund “documentary” filmmaker for $85 million, alleging that Moore manipulated an old NBC “Nightly News” interview to make Damon appear anti-war, and anti-President Bush in “Fahrenheit 9/11.”

“I just want everybody to know what kind of a guy Michael Moore is, and what kind of film this is,” said Damon, who strongly supports the President and the war in Iraq, and never agreed to be in the movie.

Damon’s lawsuit states, “The work creates a substantially fictionalized and falsified implication as a wounded serviceman who was left behind when Plaintiff was not left behind but supported, financially and emotionally, by the active assistance of the President, the United States and his family, friends, acquaintances and community.”

“It’s upsetting to him because he’s lived his life supportive of his government, he’s been a patriot, he’s been a soldier, and he’s now being portrayed in a movie that is the antithesis of all of that,” Damon’s lawyer, Dennis Lynch, said.

I’m surprised he didn’t do that along time ago. Seems kinda late in the game now, but better late then never I suppose.

06.03.2006 SENATE VERSION OF NATIONAL RIGHT-TO-CARRY BILL INTRODUCED

U.S. Senator George Allen (R-Va.) recently introduced S. 3275–the Senate version of H.R. 4547, a national Right-to-Carry (RTC) reciprocity bill that would provide national reciprocity for state carry licensees. This legislation would allow any person with a valid carry permit or license issued by a state to carry a concealed firearm in any other state if they meet certain criteria. The bill would not create a federal licensing system; it would simply require the states to recognize each other’s carry permits, just as they recognize drivers’ licenses.

Please be sure to contact your U.S. Senators at (202) 224-3121, and urge them to cosponsor and support S. 3275!

Hey, sweet. Does this mean that I can carry *cough legally cough* when visiting inlaws in california?? Thats the one place that I really feel the need to.

NRA Sues Mayor Ray Nagin

03.02.2006

We all remember the Chocolate City Mayor, right? And how many of you saw the police slamming that aged grandmother into a wall, breaking her arm and confiscating her shotgun, illegally?

Thanks to Ray Nagin, that poor old woman didn’t need to defend her self against the rapists, and murders plundering a post flood New Orleans… she needed to defend herself from the ones who swore to defend her. This Ray Nagin creep needs to go.

Fairfax, VA-The National Rifle Association (NRA ) has filed a motion for contempt against the City of New Orleans, the mayor and the acting chief of police for failure to comply with a temporary restraining order, handed down September 12, 2005, ordering an end to all illegal gun confiscations.

“With looters, rapists and other thugs running rampant in New Orleans, Ray Nagin issued an order to disarm all law-abiding citizens,” declared Wayne LaPierre, NRA executive vice president. “With no law enforcement and 911 available, he left the victims vulnerable by stripping away their only means of defending themselves and their loved ones. Now Ray Nagin thinks he’s above the law, and that’s just wrong.”

Attorneys for NRA have exhausted all efforts to cooperate with the defendants, Mayor Nagin and Chief Riley, who repeatedly ignored the court’s permanent restraining order against their illegal gun confiscations.

“Ray Nagin is a colossal disappointment,” said Chris W. Cox, NRA chief lobbyist. “During a federally declared emergency, he abused his power and abandoned the very people he was sworn to protect. He took away the victims’ freedom and their basic means of self-defense during an ill-fated and perilous time.”

The motion also includes an order that all seized firearms must be returned to their rightful owners.

2 New Idaho Pro-Gun Bills

02.10.2006

Just got this from NRA HQ. If you live in Idaho, please send an email to our Senators to pass both these new laws. Refer to the bills’s by their slip numbers. RS 15636C4 & RS 15712C1.

RS 15636C4 is a “Right-to-Carry” reform bill. It would extend the term of Idaho concealed weapon permits from four to five years and, like driver’s licenses, it would require that renewal notices be sent out prior to permit expiration. Additionally, this proposed bill would repeal the requirement that a person obtain a concealed weapon permit if she only carries a concealed weapon in a vehicle. Under current law, anyone who can lawfully possess a firearm can carry it OPENLY in a vehicle but that isn’t always the safest manner to keep a firearm in a vehicle. This bill will allow law-abiding citizens to carry concealed in a vehicle without a permit. Also, RS 15636C4 would allow concealed carry by law-abiding citizens anywhere outside city limits without a permit. This is how the law is in Montana and, not surprisingly, it works very well there. Help protect and enhance the rights of law-abiding Idaho firearm owners and out-of-state visitors who visit Idaho by motor vehicle and who carry firearms in their vehicle for protection and other lawful purposes by urging Senators to support RS 15636C4!

RS 15712C1 is an “Emergency Powers” bill. All NRA members should be well aware of what happened in New Orleans in the wake of Hurricane Katrina. Law-abiding citizens were stripped of their firearms by some overzealous law enforcement officials. NRA was forced to file a lawsuit to stop this egregious violation of the rights of people who were only trying to protect their families and property. This bill would simply clarify that, during any state of emergency, no government official shall impose restrictions on the lawful possession, transfer, sale, transport, storage, display or use of firearms or ammunition. Help ensure that New Orleans-style tyranny will never happen in Idaho by urging Senators to support RS 15712C1!

Messages for legislators can be left at 208-332-1000 or at 800-626-0471 for people outside the Boise area.

Boycott Conoco-Phillips

10.15.2005

“Across the country, we’re going to make ConocoPhillips the example of what happens when a corporation takes away your Second Amendment rights, If you are a corporation that’s anti-gun, anti-gun owner, or anti-Second Amendment, we will spare no effort or expense to work against you, to protect the rights of your law-abiding employees. Their rights are worth more than your money!”

NRA Executive Vice President Wayne LaPierre spoke to a crowd of supporters at a rally in Ibedel, Oklahoma. The Weyerhaeuser Corporation recently fired several of it’s factory employees for keeping a firearm in their locked vehicles, on the company parking lot.

So now it’s our job as 2A loving patriots, to boycott the filthy anti-2A corporation.
