Chickenhawk, Not a Chickensh*t

06.27.2005

Wizbang posted an excellent one today. I’m sure most of us have heard, or have been called, a chickenhawk by some anti-war, flowers in the barrel, hippy type liberal.

Heck, even Urban Dictionary’s first definition example calls Dubya a chickenhawk.

Here’s a quote from Wizbang.

That belief stands in stark contrast with the “chickenhawk” argument, which tries to shift the discussion from the message to the messenger. It tries to move the topic from “is this a good idea?” to “who the hell are you to say anything?” It is an attempt to silence the opposition by assailing them personally, by punishing them for daring to have a dissenting opinion.

And here’s one that I’m obviously guilty of.

At that point, [The Supporter] usually falls into the trap and starts explaining why he isn’t currently serving in the military. Lord knows I’ve done it myself on more than a few occasions.

Shoot. Thats almost obviously right. If I ever feel guilty of anything I stand for…. It’s that I can’t be out there in the thick of it, with the other soldiers. Eatin sh*t sandwhiches, and askin for seconds. That’s what they’re doin’. And I only wish I could be out there. Or to even say that I have military experience under my belt. I feel so robbed. Both my brothers were and are in. My dad too. If anyone shoulda gone in, it shoulda been me, dammit! Arrrgh.

But I’ve learned a good lesson today. I’m never explaining to any sorry-ass liberal chickensh*t why I’m not serving in the military, ever again. Cos if I could be out there, I would. Thanks Wiz.

Memorial Day Thank You

05.30.2005

Memorial Day, originally called Decoration Day, is a day of remembrance for those who have died in our nation’s service. I’m just gonna post a few inspirational poems and stories about this special day.

Futures

Flanders Fields

In Flanders fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.

We are the Dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved and were loved, and now we lie
In Flanders fields.

Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep,
though poppies grow
In Flanders fields.

by John McCrae, May 1915

Michelle Malkin led me to this interesting read.

Excerpt…

So to the indifferent inquirer who asks why Memorial Day is still kept up we may answer, it celebrates and solemnly reaffirms from year to year a national act of enthusiasm and faith. It embodies in the most impressive form our belief that to act with enthusiam and faith is the condition of acting greatly. To fight out a war, you must believe something and want something with all your might. So must you do to carry anything else to an end worth reaching. More than that, you must be willing to commit yourself to a course, perhpas a long and hard one, without being able to foresee exactly where you will come out. All that is required of you is that you should go somewhither as hard as ever you can. The rest belongs to fate. One may fall-at the beginning of the charge or at the top of the earthworks; but in no other way can he reach the rewards of victory. More..

“Let us, then, at the time appointed, gather around their sacred remains and garland the passionless mounds above them with choicest flowers of springtime; let us raise above them the dear old flag they saved from dishonor; let us in this solemn presence renew our pledges to aid and assist those whom they have left among us as sacred charges upon the Nation’s gratitude,–the soldier’s and sailor’s widow and orphan.”

General John A. Logan in his General Order No. 11 of May 5th, 1868,
Decoration Day

Scott posted a thanks and a poem, over at his place.

“And When He Gets To Heaven,
To Saint Peter He Will Tell;
One More Soldier Reporting Sir,
I’ve Served My Time In Hell”

And for one more Greyhawk posted a nice poem for his memorial day post.

Be sure to thank any vets you know today. We can never repay them.

Jane Fonda=Owned

04.20.2005

Fonda Gets Owned!

Fonda, 67, spoke at Unity Temple, in The Plaza shopping district, about her new best-selling book, “My Life So Far,” and her new movie with Jennifer Lopez called “Monster-In-Law.”

At about 9 p.m., police said 54-year-old Michael A. Smith, who had been waiting in line for about 90 minutes, passed a book to Fonda and then spit a large amount of tobacco juice into her face.

This guy, is, the, man.

A French Poem

01.16.2005

A remembrance of Normandy

Eleven thousand soldiers lay beneath the dirt and stone,
all buried on a distant land so far away from home.

For just a strip of dismal beach they paid a hero’s price,
to save a foreign nation They made the sacrifice.

And now the shores of Normandy Are lined with blocks of white:
Americans who didn’t turn from someone else’s plight.

Eleven thousand reasons for the French to take our side,
but in the moment of our need, they chose to run and hide.

Chirac said every war means loss, perhaps for France that’s true,
for they’ve lost every battle since the days of Waterloo.

Without a soldier worth a hang to be found within the region,
the French became the only land to need a Foreign Legion.

You French all say we’re arrogant. Well shucks, we’ve earned the right–
We saved your sorry nation when you lacked the guts to fight!!

But now you’ve made a big mistake, and one that you’ll regret;
you took sides with our enemies, and that we won’t forget.

It wasn’t just our citizens you spit on when you turned,
but every one of yours who fell the day the towers burned.

You spit upon our soldiers, on our pilots and Marines,
and now you’ll get a little sense of just what “payback” means.

So keep your Paris fashions and your wine and your champagne,
and find some other market that will buy your airplanes.

And try to find someone else to wear your French cologne,
for you’re about to find out what it means to stand alone.

You see, you need us far more than we ever needed you.
America has better friends who know how to be true.

I’d rather stand with warriors who have the will and might,
than huddle in the dark with those whose flag is white.

I’ll take the Brits, the Aussies, the Israelis and the rest,
for when it comes to valor we’ve seen that they’re the best.

We’ll count on one another as we face a moment dire,
while you sit on the sideline with a sign, “Friendship For Hire.”

We’ll win this war without you and we’ll total up the cost,
and take it from your foreign aid, and then you’ll feel the loss.

And when your nation starts to fall well Frenchie, you can spare us,
just call the Germans for a hand, they know the way to Paris.

Day of Infamy

December 7th - The Day of Infamy

Always remember our hero’s, Never forget our enemies.

Sam Pender sent me this, and it is an excellent read. Also very educational to those who don’t have a clear understanding on America doing what she needs to do. Thanks for the great read, Sam.

The following was written by Sam Pender; author of Iraq’s Smoking Gun (available on Amazon.com) . Please feel free to post it on your site in rememberence of today. Thank you

——————————————————————————–

Why did the United States go to war with Germany in WWII? Those certainly weren’t German Stukas and NAZI pilots over Pearl Harbor on December 7th. It was because Hitler supported Japan-not because they ever attacked us or had plans to do so. Pearl Harbor was specifically the result of a US oil embargo placed upon Japan as a result of the Japanese occupation of formerly French Indochinaâ?¦an occupation permitted by the Germans who had recently conquered France and controlled its holdings-but the embargo was place upon Japan-not Germany. So, how did the United States interpret the 12/7 attacks as a final step into war with both Japan AND with Germany if Germany had nothing to do with 12/7?

“It is difficult to find a parallel to the unwisdom of the British and the weakness of the French Governments, who none the less reflected the opinion of their Parliaments in this disastrous period. Nor can the United States escape the censure of history. Absorbed in their own affairs and all the abounding interests, activities, and accidents of a free community, they simply gaped at the vast changes which were taking place in Europe and imagined they were none of their concern.”

-Winston Churchill, Memoirs of the Second World War

Let’s Bring Em Home!

12.02.2004

null

Earnie’s is havin his 4th year taking donations to purchase plane tickets for junior enlisted military personnel, allowing them the opportunity to fly home and spend the holidays with their families.

We are adding a new facet to the 2004 LBEH campaign. Some troops wounded in combat are unable to leave the hospitals where they are being treated, so we are looking into the possibility of delivering their loved ones to the hospitals for the holidays!

This program was initially started in December 2001 to show our grateful appreciation to American service members deployed in support of Operation Enduring Freedom, and has become an annual tradition ever since.

Now in 2004, we will ask for your help in our quest to get every single one of these soldiers, sailors, airmen and Marines home for the holidays and more. So please folks, crack those piggy banks, rummage through those couch cushions and let’s really show our support for our troops!

Fore-Fathers Forgive Us

11.25.2004

Thanks Tony and Scott for sending this my way.

Talk about shame, shame and shame on the direction of this country. I’m sittin here…. in total amazement. How is it, that we have come to this.

NOVEMBER 24–A California teacher who teaches his fifth-grade students with the aid of primary source documents like the Declaration of Independence has been ordered by school administrators to stop using such artifacts of American history because the material contains references to God.

When a teacher is reprimanded for teaching the Declaration of Independence, the very defining document of the freedom of America, we can only assume that this country has just about lost everything that document once stood for.

Let this once more help you to understand the severe threat to our free nation, that the insane left, ACLU, pinko commies really are.

Remember this: Liberals are not American. They are against everything that we stand for as a free nation, and as a beacon of liberty to the oppressed. Fight them. Never surrender the freedoms that so many have fought and died for. Fight them, expose them, stop them from the endless onsluaght that they bring us.

Our future is too important to have it end up like Red China or the Soviet Union.

Make sure to check out Heath’s plan for a new and improved America. Seems like he made it pretty clear that I can join. Right on!

The Folds of the Flag

10.26.2004

Have you ever noticed the honor guard pays meticulous attention to correctly folding the American flag 13 times? You probably thought it was to symbolize the original 13 colonies, but we learn something new every day!

The 1st fold of our flag is a symbol of life.

The 2nd fold is a symbol of our belief in eternal life.

The 3rd fold is made in honor and remembrance of the veterans departing our ranks who gave a portion of their lives for the defense of our country to attain peace throughout the world.

The 4th fold represents our weaker nature, for as American citizens trusting in God, it is to Him we turn in times of peace as well as in time of war for His divine guidance.

The 5th fold is a tribute to our country, for in the words of Stephen Decatur, “Our Country, in dealing with other countries, may she always be right; but it is still our country, right or wrong.

The 6th fold is for where our hearts lie. It is with our heart that We pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States Of America, and the Republic for which it stands, one Nation under God, indivisible, with Liberty and Justice for all.

The 7th fold is a tribute to our Armed Forces, for it is through the Armed Forces that we protect our country and our flag against all her enemies, whether they be found within or without the boundaries of our republic.

The 8th fold is a tribute to the one who entered into the valley of the shadow of death, that we might see the light of day.

The 9th fold is a tribute to womanhood, and Mothers. For it has been through their faith, their love, loyalty and devotion that the character of the men and women who have made this country great has been molded.

The 10th fold is a tribute to the father, for he, too, has given his sons and daughters for the defense of our country since they were first born.

The 11th fold represents the lower portion of the seal of King David and King Solomon and glorifies in the Hebrews eyes, the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob.

The 12th fold represents an emblem of eternity and glorifies, in the Christians eyes, God the Father, the Son and Holy Spirit.

The 13th fold, or when the flag is completely folded, the stars are uppermost reminding us of our nations motto, “In God We Trust.”

After the flag is completely folded! and tucked in, it takes on the appearance of a cocked hat, ever reminding us of the soldiers who served under General George Washington, and the Sailors and Marines who served under Captain John Paul Jones, who were followed by their comrades and shipmates in the Armed Forces of the United States, preserving for us the rights, privileges and freedoms we enjoy today.

There are some traditions and ways of doing things that have deep meaning. In the future, you’ll see flags folded and now you will know why.

Share this with others who love the symbol of “Liberty and Freedom”

also, do you know that at military funerals, the 21-gun salute stands for the sum of the numbers in the year 1776?
